Billie Joan Dyer

Billie Joan Dyer, 91, passed away gracefully on Sunday, August 28, 2022. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Lamar; and her two sons, James Michael and Jerry Lamar. She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Potter and husband Garry; three grandchildren, Stacy Lester and husband Brian, Kelly Smithee and husband Adam, and Christy White and husband Derek. Additionally, four great-grandchildren carry on her legacy, Bryson, Addison, and Jaxon White, and Tyler Lester and wife Adalyn. The legend continues with the arrival of her Great-Great-Grandson in July, Easton Lester.

Billie was born in Tulia, Texas to Ramah and Floyd Ward. Her childhood was spent moving around numerous cities in Oklahoma, when they eventually settled in Midwest City. She graduated from Midwest City High School in 1949 (Go Bombers). Her life would change one day when a young serviceman walked into the Conrad Marr Drug Store where she was working and asked if she “wanted to get married, toots?” After politely saying “no thank you” a few times, she was soon swept away by Jimmy’s charm and the rest is history. They were married at Wickline Methodist Church in Midwest City in 1950, and started a family the following year and the family legacy began. Jimmy had been known to say that “Billie was the most gorgeous woman he had ever seen, and he still thought so” until his death in 2009.

Billie enjoyed doing ceramics and painting various items (including Panty Hose Eggs for her grandchildren for Easter). She was a truly bionic woman, achiever of Great-Great-Grandmother status in the game of Life, hunter of all things genealogy, and author of many “Grandmaisms” that still bring laughter today. She had an amazing green thumb and the flower beds around her home looked like they could be on the cover of a magazine. Never one to miss her weekly beauty shop appointment, lover of animals (the birds, squirrels and deer always knew they could find a meal at her house), liberal applier of her White Diamonds perfume, supporter of her granddaughters “Jazzerazz”, and always warned not to “jig it too hard.” She was an overall amazing woman that every woman should aspire to be.

A visitation for Billie will be held Wednesday, August 31, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bill Eisenhour NE Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141. A graveside service will occur Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Arlington Memory Gardens, 3400 North Midwest Blvd, Midwest City, OK 73141.
