Betty Cox passed away December 11, 2021. She was born May 20, 1940 at Hetiwa and John Gray Thomas in Carlsbad, New Mexico. At a young age, Betty and her family moved to Oklahoma City where she attended grade school, Taft Jr. High and NW Classen High School. As a youngster, Betty spent many of her summers in Hammon, OK with her grandparents riding horses and barrel racing. While at NW Classen she and two other girls formed a musical trio called the Polyannas where Betty became the lead singer. They recorded two songs “Down in Bermuda” and “Satisfied”, which were very popular.
Later, Betty went on her own, sang solo and toured with Don Wallace and the Rocking aces throughout Oklahoma in the late 50’s and early 60’s. She was very talented and always looking for new projects such as refurbishing old furniture and making pottery. She enjoyed boating, fishing and golf where she scored a hole in one on two separate occasions. Betty had a passion for creativity and will be remembered for the many hours she would spend decorating holiday packages she gave away at Christmas. She was always the life of the party at gatherings and loved pulling tricks and jokes on her friends and family.
Betty was preceded in death by her Parents, her sisters Carolyn Thomas Campbell, Beverly Ann Short and her beloved daughter Cheryl Kay Cox. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Clifford. She is also survived by her two children Brad Cox of Oklahoma City, John Cox of Tulsa, grandchildren, Dustin Cox, Casey Cox, Great grandchildren Katelyn and Amber Cox. She also had numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews and nieces whom she loved dearly.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 18, 2021, at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Directors, 6600 N. Broadway Ext., Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73116. The family has requested that all in attendance wear masks and practice social distancing.
