Andy Davis Woodson Jr.

Andy Davis Woodson Junior, a.k.a. Puddin, battled serious medical issues through the years and showed courage while facing them with a smile and determination until the end. Andy transitioned on Monday, June 26, 2023, surrounded by loved ones who will continue to honor his legacy by living their lives as he inspired. Andy was born in Jewett, TX on January 31, 1945 and grew up in Buffalo, TX. After high school graduation, he left home for the Air Force in which he was honorably discharged after serving his time. He moved to Toronto in the early 1970s where he met the love of his life Joyce Woodson. They were married on February 2, 1974. They later moved to Tulsa, OK, where he worked and retired from BancTec as a district manager. Andy enjoyed spending his days in retirement working part-time at Wal-Mart.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Woodson, and children Brian Pollard (Gerardo Hernandez), LaShaun Hayes (James Hayes), Richard Woodson (Collette Woodson), and Tamara Poteat (Jowahn Poteat). He was an extremely proud husband, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend. His grandchildren were among his best friends that he loved unconditionally, gave an abundance of guidance to, and learned a lot from throughout the years. Some would say he was softened by his grandkids. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Taylor Woodson, Calon Woodson, Quentin Woodson, Avery Poteat, Jackson Poteat, Carrington Hayes, Noelle Poteat (his “baby girl who could do no wrong”), and great-grandson, Jayden Woodson, his siblings: Linda Woodson, Jewel Thomas, Faye Gafford, Joyce Garden, and Jimmie Lindley and many nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. He is preceded in death by his parents A.D. Woodson Sr and Daisy Mae Woodson, brother Thurston Oliver and granddaughter Alexandria Poteat.

Andy was loved and looked up to by COUNTLESS family and friends across the United States and the Toronto, Canada metro area. When he entered the room, everyone took notice due to his stature, his smile, and his deep voice that seemed to carry from miles away. He always wanted everybody to have a good time even towards his last days. The simplest pleasures in life brought great joy to Andy. During the last few months, it wouldn’t be uncommon for him to just say something to make you laugh, make you think about his interpretation of life, brag about his grandkid's accomplishments, and of course talk about the hometown he grew up in (Buffalo, TX) or talk about his car & the old truck that he loved so dearly. Andy will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all those who he encountered because he is an unforgettable man not only by stature but his inspiration on the minds of many. We are extremely thankful for his presence here on earth with us as a great husband, father, teacher, family man, and jokester. One line he recently said was “We are all getting old…and well… it’s almost time for one of us to go take a dirt nap”. He was entertaining to say the least. Last month (in May) he was in the hospital being cleaned by 2 nurses and looked over and said “Richard, don’t get envious”. That was just his personality despite his ailments.

It’s said that when people die, many will speak about the individual with stories equivalent to a book or a chapter of a book, then the chapter eventually turns into a page, then a paragraph, and as the years and time pass, the paragraph gets smaller and smaller until just a few words are left to describe an individual. This won’t be the case for Andy Woodson. He is a legend that will live on in our minds, our hearts, and our stories throughout each of our lives and far beyond.

A visitation for Andy will be held Wednesday, July 5, 2023 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home, 8805 NE 23rd Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73141. A funeral service will occur Thursday, July 6, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Bill Eisenhour Funeral Home.

Andy will be laid to rest in St. Martins Cemetery, SE 74th St., Oklahoma City, OK.
