Alfred O. Holl

Holl, Alfred O. (Al) died July 17, 2014, at the age of 93. He was born July 10, 1921, the third of seven sons to Martha and Harry Holl of Lincoln County, Kansas. During World War II, he served in the Army Air Corps as a navigator, flying 36 missions over Germany in B-24’s and B-17’s. For such service he was awarded the Air Medal with 5 clusters and the European Theater ribbon with 4 battle stars. He remained in the Air Force Reserve and retired as a Lt. Colonel. After the war he returned to school and was awarded an AB degree from Fort Hays State University in 1947 and a Juris Doctorate degree from Washburn University in 1949. He was the Assistant Supreme Court Reporter for Kansas for 1949-50. He was employed by Cities Service Oil Co. in Bartlesville, Oklahoma, in 1950, serving there until 1970 when he was transferred to Atlanta, Georgia, as General Attorney for the Cities Service Co. He concluded his active legal carrier as General Counsel and Director of Cities Service Gas Co. from 1973 to 1984.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise Luce of Hays, Kansas. He and Louise were married on March 8, 1944 and were married for 60 years before her passing in 2004. He is survived by two daughters: Carol Ann Lang of Bethany, Oklahoma, and Barbara Painter of Tulsa, a son-in-law Randy G. Painter, two grandsons, Christopher Lang (Tiffany) and Patrick Painter (Jennifer), one granddaughter Jennifer Honn (Jesse), 9 great-grandchildren, and 1 brother, Raymond Holl of Beloit, Kansas.

He was an active member of the American, Oklahoma, and Kansas Bar Associations. He was active in community affairs while living in Bartlesville, serving as the Commander of the Legion Post, a founder, director and president of the Boy’s Club, the County Civil Defense Director, and member of the Jane Phillips Hospital Board. In lieu of flowers, it was his wish that donations be made to Covenant Presbyterian Church of Oklahoma City, of which he was a member.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, July 22nd from 8:am to 8:pm at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 23 at 11:00 AM at Rose Hill Burial Park, followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at Covenant Presbyterian Church. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was respected and loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.
