Jean R. Brown

Funeral services for Jean R. Brown, age 90 of Heuvelton, will be held on Wednesday (Feb 15, 2017) at 4:00pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home with Rev. Kevin O’Brien officiating. Interment will be at Foxwood Memorial Park.

Calling hours will be held also on Wednesday from 2:00pm until the time of the service. Mrs. Brown passed away on Thursday (Feb 9, 2017) at her home surrounded by her family.

Surviving are three sons and their wives; David (Nola) Brown of San Diego CA, Donald (Virginia) Brown of San Diego CA and Stephen (Julie) Brown of Heuvelton; a sister-in-law Evelyn Gotham of Rochester; grandchildren Darren Brown, Tracey Brown, Laura Brown, Colleen Brown, Elizabeth (Dion) Light, Justin Brown; eight great-grandchildren; 5 honorary grandchildren; 8 nieces and nephews and many great nieces & nephews.

Her husband Calvin; a brother Robert Gotham; and a sister Judith Wagner predeceased her.

Jean was born on Sept 5, 1926 in Ogdensburg NY, a daughter of the late Floyd & Florence (Sears) Gotham. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1943 and continued her education at the Grey Nuns School of Nursing where she obtained her registered nursing degree. She later married Calvin D. Brown on November 10, 1947 at St. Mary’s Cathedral.

She was employed at A. Barton Hepburn Hospital, did private duty nursing in Gouverneur and worked as a surgical nurse at the Gouverneur Hospital during her career. She retired in 1985. Jean enjoyed gardening, cross stitching, playing the piano and being around her family.
