A Funeral Mass for H. Raymond “Tuffy” Carroll, age 79 of Heuvelton, will be held at 11:00am on Friday March 4, 2016 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church in Heuvelton with Reverend Kevin O’Brien officiating. Burial will be in the spring at Hillcrest Cemetery.
Calling hours will be held Thursday March 3, 2016 from 2-4pm & 6-8pm at the Fox & Murray Funeral Home. Mr. Carroll passed away at his home on Tuesday (Mar 1st) surrounded by his loving family.
Surviving is his wife Christine; two sons Gregory Carroll of Ogdensburg and Raymond “RJ” (Amber) Carroll of Heuvelton; three daughters Maryanne Brabant of Ogdensburg, Tarasa Lewis of Canton and Jessica Carroll of Heuvelton; grandchildren Vanessa & Alecia Brabant, Genny Carroll, Brooke & Kiersten Lewis and Ava & Liam Carroll; a brother Ronald Carroll of Waddington; sisters Maureen Carroll of Ogdensburg, Sandy Fish of Hamilton, NY and Michelle (Tim) Erwin of Ogdensburg; along with many nieces, nephews & cousins.
An infant sister Jacqueline Carroll and two brothers Gregory & Charles Carroll predeceased him.
Ray was born on October 24, 1936 in Ogdensburg NY, a son of the late John H. & Marjorie (Abar) Carroll. He graduated from Ogdensburg Free Academy and joined the National Guard in 1954 and later enlisted in the United States Navy from 1955-1959. A previous marriage ended, and he later married Christine McBreen on July 12, 1975 at St. Raphael’s Church.
During his career he was employed at A & P, Howard & Leamy Lumber Companies, McConvills, A & W and later joined the City of Ogdensburg where he worked as Chief Waterplant Operator from 1972 until his retirement in 1998.
He was a member of Notre Dame & St. Raphael’s parishes, The Knights of Columbus where he earned 4th Degree, a past member of Odd Fellow, Amvets, NRA and the Barney Pond Hunting Club. Ray enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching the Yankees & Giants, woodworking, building, reading, his yellow labs and being an historian.
