Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Monday, April 7, 2014, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Services will be held on Tuesday, April 8, at 10 a.m. at Eisenhower Church of Christ with Allen Weakland officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
He was born in Pampa, Texas, on May 8, 1941, to William and Jenny Smith. He graduated from Seminole High School in 1960 and Sul Ross State University in 1969. He married June Coggins on May 31, 1969, in Odessa Texas.
Mike served in the US Army and was a paratrooper for the 101st Airborne. After he left the service, he taught and coached for ECISD for 38 years. After his retirement from ECISD, he worked for Whitehead Construction up to the day of his passing.
He served as a Deacon and an Elder for Eisenhower Church of Christ. Through the years, Mike enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, hunting, and camping. He was a very gentle and kind man that was loved by many who held him in great esteem. He will be greatly missed.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jenny Smith; and his brother, Larry Smith.
He is survived by his wife, June; son, James Smith and wife Kathryn of Bastrop, Texas; daughter, Cindy Starcher and husband Christopher of Lubbock, Texas; and grandchildren, Ella and Christopher Starcher.
