Steve was born June 18, 1956 in Big Spring, Tx to Harold Joe and Bettye Smith. He grew up in Odessa, Tx, graduating in 1974 from Permian High School. He started out as a lineman for AT&T after graduation and eventually retired after 31 years of service. He was employed by Omega Chemicals for 7 years at the time of his death.
Steve found great joy in being a father to his daughter, Jesamy Ferguson, born July 11, 1983. He married the love of his life, Keira Oney, September 7, 1996. With this marriage, he gained two more daughters, Kasha Rosas and Keena Richardson. Steve and Keira spent over 21 years achieving their dream of living out in the country with their horses. Steve was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend to everyone he came across. He had a giving spirit that was unparalleled and was happiest when he was making others laugh and enjoy themselves. He was a member of the congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses since 1982. He enjoyed being outside, grilling and spending time with friends. Steve loved traveling and having new experiences. Above all, family was Steve’s first and foremost love.
Steve is survived by his wife, Keira Leigh Smith; three daughters: Jesamy Ferguson, husband Jeremy Ferguson, Kasha Rosas, husband Richard Rosas, and Keena Richardson; mother, Bettye Jo Smith; brother Greg Smith, wife Elaine; sister Sara Lange, husband Andy Lange; grandchildren Ava, Corbin, Serenity, Emma, Trey, Tara and husband Aaron, Tori, Haylee, Landyn; great granddaughter, Kenadee; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He is preceded in death by his father, Harold Joe Smith.
A visitation will be held for friends and family Friday, November 17, 2017 from 6-8pm at Frank Wilson Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 11am at Frank Wilson Funeral Home.
