Sheril Berryhill

Sheril was born on an open prairie farm outside of Tatum, NM. He was the fourth of five children born to Lee and Ruth Berryhill. At a young age, Sheril developed a strong work ethic that was with him until his last breath. There was nothing he couldn’t fix or for which he could not find a solution.

Sheril attended a small school in Tatum, NM; his senior year he was voted “Most Handsome.” He always said, “You should have seen the other guy.” After high school, he attended the University of New Mexico, but soon returned to Eastern New Mexico and West Texas working construction and oilfield-related jobs.

He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959, and was stationed in Germany when the Berlin Wall was built.

After returning from Germany, he renewed his friendship with Marion Brown. It blossomed into a storybook romance with Marion becoming the love of his life. They married October 13, 1962. With great love and mutual respect, they built a wonderful life together. They raised two sons Perry and Darren, who loved and respected their Dad. He was the best husband and greatest Dad ever! When his grandchildren came along he shared even more love to them. He tried to instill in his grandchildren honesty and to always keep your word.

Sheril became a stockbroker in 1980, after a career in the finance business. He soon joined the A.G. Edward and Sons brokerage firm where he had a most successful career. Financial planning and the stock market were his true calling. He loved his clients! He retired in 2002. During his career, he and Marion traveled extensively. Sheril loved to travel; having dinner in the Vatican was his most treasured memory.

Once he was retired, he became active in the Permian Basin Oil Burners, a chapter of the VMCCA, a national antique touring car club. He loved the club and his old classic cars. Sheril worked on these cars on a daily basis and was in the process of restoring a 1957 Cadillac. Most of all he loved the club members; they were like extended family and they loved him.

Sheril loved his family and shared a special bond with his brother, B. D. Berryhill. They gathered every morning at Norma’s to convene their round table of cronies, playfully dubbed the “Romeo” Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out).

On his daily walks he often spoke of the beautiful sunrises, as so, he was a light in our lives. Sheril will be missed by all who knew him. He was our leader! Our hearts are heavy as we grieve for our loss, but rejoice because we know he is in a better place. Even the most glorious sunrise must ascend.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, February 25, 2015, at Sherwood Church of Christ with Lynn Money officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Ryan Berryhill, Zachery Berryhill, Nicholas Woolley, Gregg Berryhill, Bill Mills, Michael Berryhill, Greg Eddings, and Gary Homsey.
