Sheila Swift Moore, age 87, loving sister, mother, nanny, grand nanny, aunt, and friend, left this Earth after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s Disease to be with our Lord and Savior on Monday, January 3, 2022. Sheila was born in Ossett, England on July 19, 1934, the fourth of five children, to Joe and Maud Swift. Sheila’s family relocated to Peterborough, England in the 1940’s where the majority of her family resides today.
Sheila was fluent in four languages and in the 1950’s she took a position with the British Embassy and moved to Paris, France where she met and fell in love with a U.S Air Force man. They married in 1959 and moved to Alpine, TX. They worked and obtained a higher education.
Throughout the years, they had 3 children, John Barron Moore, Jim Dan Moore, and Julia Ann Moore. They moved from Alpine, TX to Iraan, TX, to Ft. Stockton, TX before eventually relocating their family to Pecos, TX where they owned and operated Trans Pecos Aviation Services. Sheila parted ways with her husband, completed her BA, and began her career in education. Sheila continued her education and earned three additional Master's degrees while helping finance two of her children through university: John B. Moore, Ph.D., and Julie A. Graham, Educator.
Sheila was an enduring, giving, loving spirit who cherished people, children, and animals. Those left to cherish Sheila’s memories are her brother and sister-in-law Charles and Brenda Swift, brother John Swift, son John Moore, daughter and son-in-law Julie and Don Graham, grandson Christopher Moore and wife Erika, grandson Colton Moore and wife Rashi, granddaughter Brittney Thielepape and husband Travis, granddaughter Samantha Graham, great grandchildren Kristi, Avery, Emerson, and Hadley, and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
Sheila is preceded in death by her parents Joe and Maud Swift, sisters Doreen McMeeken (Ivan) and Audrey Chalmers (Jock), sister-in-law Annie Swift, and son Jim Moore.
Sheila was very charitable and gave to numerous organizations such as The Salvation Army, West Texas Food Bank, The Humane Society, St. Jude, United Way, Wounded Warriors, etc…. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make donations to your favorite charity.
Celebration of life for Sheila Swift Moore is scheduled for Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 10:00 AM, at Hubbard Kelly Funeral Home, 601 N. Alleghaney Ave., Odessa, TX, 79761.
The family would like to thank everyone for your thoughts, prayers, and well wishes, and thank you to all who loved and cared for our sister, mother, nanny, grand nanny, aunt, and friend.
