Mark David Owens

Mark David Owens was born in Monroe, LA, on March 21, 1961. He was the son of Dee and Mack Owens. He grew up in West Monroe and Dallas, and attended Richardson High School where he played football and ran track.

After high school, he attended the University of Texas at Austin, and was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. After receiving a degree in finance, he attended South Texas College of Law in Houston.

He married his love of 27 years, Teresa Henderson, in August 1986. Mark practiced law in Dallas in the area of insurance defense and in 1988, moved to Odessa to open his own practice. In 1993, he was elected to the bench and has served as Judge of County Court at Law #2 for the past 20 years.

Mark represented his profession by serving as President of the Texas County Court at Law Judges Association, board member of the Texas Center for the Judiciary, Finance committee member of First United Methodist Church, President of the Odessa Chapter of Texas Exes, member of the Optimist club, and board member of the Commemorative Air Force.

Mark battled cancer for the past two and a half years, however, this never stopped him from spending time fishing, hunting, traveling, and serving as a judge. He loved nothing more than visiting his children in Austin and attending UT football games.

A special love and thanks goes to Brenda Melson and Melinda Garriga for the many years of friendship and support at the courthouse, the doctors and staff at MD Anderson in Houston, Dr. George at West Texas Oncology in Odessa, and Shelley with Home Hospice in Odessa.

He is survived by his wife Teresa Owens, son Mark Owens II, daughter Merritt Owens, all of Odessa; parents Dee and Mack Owens of Dallas; and brother, Lensey Owens of Dallas.

Public visitation will begin at noon to 9:00 pm on Monday, and 8:00am to 10:00 am Tuesday morning at Frank W. Wilson Funeral Directors.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 4, 2014, at First United Methodist Church, 415 North Lee St, with Revs. Terry Tamplen and Donnie Williams officiating.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Jordan, Jeff Albright, Jimmy Bridges, Bryan Henderson III, John Henderson II, and Mark Owens II.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 415 N. Lee, Odessa, TX 79761.
