L.F.J. White was born on December 14, 1933 in Nolan County to Maude White and Labe Jay White. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1955 and served until 1957. September 2, 1955 he married Sylvia Sue Crain of Blackwell, TX. He and Sue had one son, Marty White. He was Boy Scout Leader, active in the FFA with his son, and a pony league baseball manager. In 1957, Jay started working for Texas Electric and retired from there in 1992. After retirement Jay worked at the Antina Cattle Company in Ward County with his son. He was still able to climb on the biggest horse in the pen, Ol’ Five, gather and work cattle. He loved to fish. He and Sue made many trips to Blackwell so he could wet a hook. Jay loved his grandkids and his great grandkids. He made them toys, took them fishing and bike riding. All kids, young and old, called him Paw Rabbit. Jay’s legal name is L.F.J. The mystery is solved as to what those letters stand for; the L stands for his uncle, Labe, the F is for his uncle, Frank, and the J is for his father, Jay. He spent many hours just “diddling” around. He made toys, furniture, shelves, whatamacallits and do-dads. Many of his friends have received walking sticks and birdhouses. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Jackie, & sister, Elsie Mae. He is survived by his wife, Sue White of Odessa, son, Marty White and his wife, Tammie White of Monahans, two grandchildren, Cheyenne White of Gardendale, TX, and Laramie White and his wife Christy of Crane, TX , three great granddaughters, Katie Hicks, Addison and Kodie White and one niece, Trisha Mikeworth . A visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Saturday, April 15, at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 2 pm Monday, April 17, at the Blackwell Cemetery in Blackwell, TX. In lieu of flowers please consider the West Texas Gifts of Hope, PO Box 891, Odessa, TX 79760. Services entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
