Lydia Juanita Carter Meek died September 15, 2011, at her home in Odessa.
Juanita was born August 18, 1924, to Joseph Walker and Mattie S. Carter.
She graduated from Aransas Pass High School in 1941, and from Southwestern Business University in Houston.
On February 9, 1946, she married John T. Meek, the love of her life, at the First Baptist Church in Aransas Pass after John returned from his second tour of duty as a Marine in WWII. She mailed 25 invitations to the wedding and was stunned when she stepped out into the sanctuary to see it was packed.
Juanita was preceded in death by her parents and three older brothers, J.L., A.L. and H. K. Carter. John preceded her in death in 1998, after 54 years of marriage.
Juanita was a businesswoman and won numerous awards from the Odessa Business Women’s Association. She was named Deacon Emeritus at the First Christian Church in 2007.
Juanita leaves behind three loving children, Fay Meek of Odessa, Peggy Venable of Austin and John T. Meek of Spring; three adoring grandchildren, Kelly Meek of Conroe, Casey Marshal of Spring, and Amanda Venable of Austin; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler, Raylyn, Jordan and Kaden Marshal; and Kameron and Cole Meek.
A Memorial service will be held at her beloved First Christian Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday, September 24, 2011, with Rev. Steven C. Digby officiating. Interment will be at the IOOF Cemetery in Rockdale, TX.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Christian Church of Odessa.
