Ina Folk

Ina Lee Folk, 92, a long time resident of Odessa, passed away Monday, January 17, 2011 at her residence. She was born on March 26, 1918 in Cruce, Oklahoma. She was a member of the Gardendale Church of Christ.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert Lee Shortes and James Ethel Johnson Shortes; a brother, Charlie Shortes; two sisters, Irene Reed and Margie Stevens; her husband of 53 years, Lewis Folk and a daughter, Linda Irene Saums.

Ina and her husband Lewis were ranchers. They left a great ranching heritage and have a lot of ranching memorabilia on loan to the Seminole Museum even today. Ina Folk was also a charter member of the Pink Ladies of Seminole Memorial Hospital and helped to start the Candy Stripers there. She was a member of the Art Assoc. of Gaines County and Gaines County Historical Society. Ina worked in several dress shops and was also a hostess at the Steak Place in Seminole. Her hobbies included traveling, sewing, homemaking and oil painting. Ina loved to play games. Even though she had eye trouble and was no longer able to read, she could still play a mean game of Skipbo. Even in her failing health, she still had a perky personality, a remarkable sense of humor and a sweet spirit. She greatly enjoyed living with her daughter, Carolyn, for the last 8 years.

Ina is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Travis; grandsons: Tommy Travis and wife Brenda; Lin Travis and wife Karen; Bradford Saums and wife, Aris; great-grandchildren: Erin Lafferty and husband, Ames, Kara Travis, Jesse Travis, Kasey Travis and wife, Jordan, Lauren Travis, Hannah Bowden and Nathan Bowden and (5) great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services for Ina Lee Folk will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, January 20, 2011 at the Gardendale Church of Christ with John Snider officiating. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm at the Gaines County Cemetery in Seminole, TX.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Interim Hospice or Gardendale Church of Christ.
