Herbert Harold Adams was born May 20, 1935, in Lampasas County to Virgil Douglas Adams and Iona Ruth Adams. He went to join his parents and baby brother in Heaven on Thursday, February 13, 2014, in Odessa, TX.
He graduated from Lometa High School in 1953 and Tarleton State College in 1955. He began working for Lane Wells in November, 1955, and retired from Dresser Atlas in July, 1986. After retiring, he began work for Tom Hanson in 1987, and later retired again from Wedge Wireline in 1997.
Herbert married Carol Jeanette Clark on November 25, 1960, in her parent’s home in Odessa. Together they raised three children: Rena Rasor and husband, Jimmy of Midland; Sharon Rhodes and husband, Earnie of Odessa; and Alan Adams and wife, Rose of Stephenville. He is also survived by six grandchildren Garrett Rasor and wife, Tiffany of Lubbock; Paul Rhodes and wife, Rose of Houston; Mark Rhodes and fiancé Ashlyn Smith of Lubbock; Brandon Rhodes of Odessa; and Noble and Wyatt Adams, both of Stephenville; as well as two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother Douglas Clark Adams.
Herbert was a hard-working man all of his life. When he was 16 years old he showed the grand champion Aberdeen Angus Steer at the Texas State Fair. He was a perfectionist in everything he did and he instilled that quality in his children. He loved to hunt and fish and watch football and wrestling on TV. He was the biggest car fanatic ever!
He had a favorite poem:
The Man in the Glass
You may fool the whole world down the pathway of life,
And get pats on the back as you pass;
But your reward will be heartache and tears,
If you’ve cheated the man in the glass.
