Ernest Paul Houghton

Ernest Paul Houghton, 84, of Portales, NM formerly of Odessa, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2011 in Portales, NM. He was born January 30, 1927 in Caddo, TX to Sherman Paul & Myrtle (Whitley) Houghton. He was an Army Veteran of WWII. He married Martha Julia Braggs October 9, 1946 in Hamlin, TX. He was a retired welder for the City Of Odessa, where he had worked for 25 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Martha Houghton, brother, Raymond Houghton, & grandson, Randy L. Houghton.

He is survived by his sons, Paul Houghton of Odessa, Lee Houghton of Orange, TX, daughters, Ann Croom of Odessa, Velma Nichols of Portales, NM, Thelma Dunfee of Roswell, NM, brothers, Jack “Jessie” Houghton of Hamlin, TX, Alvin Houghton of Arlington, TX, sister, Juanita McDaniel of Odessa, (17) grandchildren, (35) great-grandchildren, (6) great-great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, March 19, 2011 at Sunset Memorial Gardens with Rev. Robert Lamb Jr. officiating.

Pallbearers are: Mike Nichols, Ron Croom, James Wright, Kevin Casarez, Josh Johnson & Timothy Houghton. Honorary pallbearers are: David Houghton, T. C. Martin, & J.P. Nichols

There will be a visitation from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Friday, March 18, 2011 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home.
