Dorothy Ann Pope, Memaw to those who knew her, went home to be with her Lord on Monday, January 24, 2011. She was born May 29, 1912 in Dodson, Texas. She was the second of four children of L.A. and Nola Hunt. She attended school in Wellington, Texas and graduated second in her class from Wellington High School. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of fifty-six years Frank A. Pope, her brothers Raymond and Roger Hunt, her sister Bessie Hunt Johnson, her daughter Faye Pope Reeves and son-in-law Aubrey Reeves, her granddaughter Robin Reeves West, and granddaughter Kelle Jo Hawley.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Odessa, TX. She was a beautiful example of the virtuous woman of Proverbs 31. She was always a lady, and kind and gentle on every occasion. She was an excellent seamstress and cook. She won many blue ribbons at County Fairs for her quilts. However, she always said her family’s only claim to fame was that her uncle, Dr. William Hunt of Tupelo, Mississippi delivered Elvis Presley and his stillborn twin. She often laughed about it costing $15 because it was a complicated birth.
Dorothy and Frank owned a jewelry store, The Village Jeweler, in Ruidoso, NM from 1963 until 1992. After retirement they moved to Wolfforth, TX. Frank died in 1996, and in 1998, Dorothy moved to Odessa to live with her daughter and son-in-law RayeAnne and Bentley Hawley. She made many friends in Odessa at First Baptist Church, 6th and Jackson Church of Christ, Bible Study Fellowship, and her bridge club.
Memaw is survived by her daughter RayeAnne and son-in-law Bentley Hawley, granddaughter Becky Reeves Gass and husband Lance, granddaughter Leslie Hawley Wilson and husband Mark, grandson Rex Lamberti and wife Jodi, grandson-in-law Rick West, great-grandchildren Christopher Carpenter, Adam and Alex West, Kristen Wade and husband Nick, Jarrod Gass and family, Justin Gass and family, and Drake Gass, Case, Kenzi and Landri Wilson, Regan, Jett and Jax Lamberti, and great-great-grandchildren Abigail and Allison Wade.
