David G Hall

David Garland Hall was born July 2, 1948, in Odessa, TX and passed from this life into the arms of his Savior on October 21, 2017. In January 2015, he retired from ExxonMobil/XTO where he worked many years as a construction foreman and where he was well respected because he always was very respectful of others.

David and Jean celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 6th of this year. For that blessing, we are so grateful! And how wonderful it is that their two precious sons, Bryan and Cory, were here with Jean when David left this home for a better one early Saturday morning. His death is surely a joyful celebration, for David longed to go to heaven. We believe he is now enjoying a place where there are no more tears, no sickness, no pain, and no death, not because he was sinless but because God is merciful and forgiving toward His children and His promises never fail! Early in his walk as a Christian, David developed a faithful habit of communing with his Lord every day. One thought that often comes to the minds of others is David’s many humble, thoughtful, penitent, and sweet prayers, whether public or private. He and Jean enjoyed prayers often in their home, praying for each other for those who were dearest to them. When it came to Jean, David’s every thought was to care for her, and he loved her well for over 50 years. He loved the church for which Christ died, and where he served as an elder and confidante to so many. He also enjoyed singing praises to God and was a wonderful song leader even when he didn’t think so! But one of his greatest gifts was the ability to talk with others and help them on their journey through life. At times that meant even correcting someone, but he did it with such love that more often than not his wise counsel was most heeded. And like Jesus, he gladly took on the role of a servant. One of David’s greatest goals and pleasures was to be of help to others. We will never know how many, many lives he touched in his walk here. He often asked Jean to tell him if she sensed a failing in his life for he wanted only to correct it and be like Christ. David did not consider himself above reproach if warranted or ever thought he was better than anyone else. David never desired any honor or credit for himself, only for his Lord. He was so wonderful to build up others and brighten their day! Even when he was rapidly declining, he continued to teach others, through his example of strength and word when it was still possible for him. Wisdom was an integral part of his being. Sharing in his lasting memory are his faithful and loving wife, Jean, and their two sons of whom he was extremely proud: Bryan and his wife Laurin and children, Elijah, Regan, and Josiah, of San Antonio and Cory and wife, Joy, and their son, Bradley, also of San Antonio. His beloved sister, Kuita Hall of Odessa, was so faithful in her attention to him, especially in his final days. They shared a special bond as brother and sister. There is also a host of close relatives and friends too numerous to mention. “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His appearing.” - 2 Timothy 4:7. The family is profoundly grateful to the entire staff at The Courtyards for the gentle, loving care they gave David while he was there. Compass Hospice was also a comfort and help to David and the family during the last two weeks of his life.
