Abel Tijerina Ramos, 80, of Odessa, Texas, passed away on Thursday November 25th 2021. Abel was born in San Angelo, Texas on July 20th 1941 to the late Abel Guerrero Ramos and Rosita Ramos. His siblings Connie Urias (Pascual Urias), Adan Ramos
(Francis Ramos), Eva Rodriguez (Demasio Rodriguez), Sofia Cisneros (Davis Cisneros), Cain Ramos (Irma Ramos), and Ruth Ramos. He graduated from Ector high school and enlisted in the army on December 3rd 1963. He married Anita Ann Black in 1967; they were married for 35 years.
He worked as a Plant Operator for Phillips 66 for 24 years. In Abel’s free time he was a socialite, history buff, teacher, member of the drinking class, family man, and jack of all trades.
Abel is survived by his daughters Sofia Ramos & Suzanna Ramos-Campbell, and step-daughter Charolette Allshire. Abel is also survived by his grand-daughters: Rebecca Najera, Monica Najera & grand-son Anthony Najera; great-grandchildren Izeabion Ramos, Tavia Torres & Talena Torres. Abel is preceded in death by his step-daughter Diane Greene, daughters Pandora Ramos, Monica Ramos and son Caleb Ramos.
Abel was known for his social skills and before you knew it, you were pulled into his atmosphere of fun. He was a friend to all and epitomized the Texas custom of being friendly and giving the required Texas wave. Abel was an avid historian. Most conversations ended with an agreement to read about the Alamo, the Vietnam war, or the dangers of Communism. He also encouraged you to read the news because “you need to know what was going on in the world” for heaven's sake. He shared this information because he loved you and cared about his family and his country. Abel proudly adorned his head with his snazzy Vietnam vet hat and would ask you to pull over at the American Legion on the way to a funeral to pay his dues.
He was a teacher of the basketball layup, how to properly cruise down the streets of Amarillo and Odessa, Spanish, “kicking back like a big dog”, and even the 1-2-3 for the boxers in the family. Abel was there for the good, the bad, the ugly, and everything in between. When your washer broke down he could make it work like new. And when you broke down he knew how to fix that too! From a flat tire to a personal one man moving company he had the tools, the knowledge, and the heart to always get any job done!
Abel cared and he knew how to show it. Abel’s last wishes were for us to all celebrate his life by laughing, crying, remembering him, and last but not least - to have one last beer with him. So we invite you take a moment with us and smile back at him for all the beautiful memories he gave us. We will miss this magnificent soul!
A memorial service will be held at 11am on Wednesday December 1st 2021 at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home, located at 601 N Alleghaney Ave Odessa, Texas 79761.
