It is with great sadness that the family of Odvar Sigmund Holm announces his passing on March 7, 2022, at the age of 93. He passed away peacefully at Carlsbad By The Sea Retirement Community where he and wife, Zeta, have lived since 1998.
Odvar was born on April 2, 1928 in Duluth, MN. He enlisted in the Marine Corps and served for two years. After finishing his service, he went to work for McDonnell Douglas Aircraft, where he became an engineer, working there until he retired in 1987. In June of 1956, he married Patricia Mueller and had two children, Delene and Randy, before she passed away in 1978 following a valiant battle against cancer. He was a baker in the military and continued to love baking throughout his life. Odvar and Zeta Mae Olsen were married on March 31, 1979 at Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Santa Monica. A man of great faith, he always enjoyed playing a game of Scrabble, reading the daily newspaper and seldom missed a game of the Green Bay Packers.
Odvar was preceded in death by his parents, Otto and Signe; his first wife, Patricia; and daughter, Delene. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 43 years, Zeta; his son, Randy (Elisa); and step-daughter, Cathy Johnson (Kenneth). He was the proud grandfather of Randy’s children: Richard; Rebekah Hammock (Todd); Patrick; Shelby Gann (Caleb); Katie (Daniel); Kara Pruitt (Herbie); Delene’s daughter, Amber; and Cathy’s children: Todd (Jessica); Kellie Stengel (Mick); Stacy Bradley (Johnny) and Mark (Crystal). Odvar’s 15 great-grandchildren were all a great joy in his life: Norah (Shelby and Caleb); Amelia (Katherine and Daniel); Aiden, Cooper and Noelle (Kara and Herbie); Patricia (Amber); Liam and Finley (Todd and Jessica); Colton, Wyatt and Ainslee (Kellie and Mick); Harper, Hudson and Harlow (Stacy and Johnny) and Emmitt (Mark and Crystal).
Odvar will always be remembered for his kind heart, unwavering loyalty, cheerful spirit, positive attitude, ever-present willingness to help others and tremendous love for his family.
No formal service is planned at this time. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, donations are made in his memory to the Women’s Resource Center of Oceanside (by mail to 1963 Apple St. Oceanside, CA 92054 or online at wrcsd.org).
