Maria "Mary" Garrisi, 99, passed away peacefully on February 6, 2024, in Carlsbad, California. She was born on March 5, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan to Paolo Leone and Antonina Garrisi who immigrated to America from Sicily. Mary was the middle child of eleven and was very proud of her Sicilian heritage.
Mary loved to dance when she was young and could do cartwheels like no other. Mary, was known for her warmth and kindness. Her passion never gave out when playing cards with her family and friends or staying active, preserving her heritage through community events sponsored by the American Italian Club.
She cherished the arts and was an auxiliary member of Vista's Moonlight Amphitheater, a patron since 1991. Mary was devoted to her faith and an active parish member at St. Thomas Moore Catholic Church in Oceanside, CA, serving on the Alter Committee and attending to other various duties.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Nina, Rosanne, Maria, Anna, Johanna and Gina. She also leaves behind twelve grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, a brother, Paul, many nieces, nephews, cousins and treasured friends. All brought her immense joy throughout her life.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 45 years, Joseph Garrisi, her son Nick Garrisi, her grandson Victor G. Mozzarella, and her grandson Michael P. Rempp.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11am on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at St. Thomas Catholic Church located at 1450 S Melrose, Oceanside, CA.
It will be a time to honor Mary's memory and the legacy of love and compassion she leaves behind.
