Jose A. Tirado died peacefully on Monday, June 24th, 2024, in Carlsbad, CA.
He was born in La Moncada, Guanajuato, Mexico to Dolores Arteaga and Isaias Tirado. He grew up humble, achieving only a basic elementary education, and learned from a very young age to work the land and provide for his family.
At 18 years old, he left Mexico at his father's invitation to join him in California. He emigrated and worked in the avocado & citrus groves in Escondido and traveled to Northern California for a bit working fields. In 1967, he joined the LiUNA Laborer's Union and began a long and very successful career in construction, where he worked for 34 years as a foreman, leading many projects around San Diego and building many of the buildings around us today. Whenever we drove by one of his projects, he was always proud to share the details of his career with his family.
In 2001, he retired from construction and purchased his second home in Vista, a large property with acreage. It was there where he spent the next 23 years planting an orchard with vast variety and creating a home for his family to enjoy. Anyone who ever visited Cherimoya knew how proud he was of his work. He showed us love by feeding us with the fruits of his labor.
Jose is preceded in death by his wife, Francisca Hernandez Tirado, and is survived by his children, Jose Antonio Tirado (Alma Tirado) and Maria-Elena Tirado; grandchildren Nirey Tirado Luna (Enrique Luna), Veronica Tirado Gallacher (Sean Gallacher), Vianca Tirado Montanez (Matthew Montanez), Adrian Tirado (Marissa), and Tatiana Tirado; and great-grandchildren Marissa Luna, Enrique Franco Luna, Valentina Luna, Pax Gallacher, and Christopher Montanez.
Jose, known to many as Joe, Apa, and Grandpa Che, will always be remembered for his generosity. We couldn't have asked for a better father and grandpa, and we will miss him every day. We have hope in Jesus and take comfort in the fact that we will all be reunited in heaven one day. So, although he is no longer with us earthside, his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who loved him.
