Filipinas Palma Domingo

Filipinas Palma Domingo—beloved mother, grandmother, auntie, and sister— entered into rest on January 28th, 2023, at 7:34 pm, in Carlsbad, California. Surrounding her as she peacefully passed were her son, daughter-in-law, daughter, and granddaughter.

Born in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, the Philippines, on July 4th, 1936, she was the eldest of four children born to Andres and Leucadia Palma. Always an excellent student, Filipinas graduated from the University of the Philippines with a bachelor’s degree in Home Economics. Ms. Palma Domingo, immigrated to the United States in the spring of 1962 to join her sister Angelina and her father Andres.

In the United States, Filipinas began her professional career as a Keypunch Operator for the Ahmanson Insurance Company in Los Angeles, CA in 1964. With the many Ahmanson Company acquisitions, she also worked for the National American Insurance Company and with Western Underwriters. In 1997, she retired from Home Savings (later known as Washington Mutual and finally as JP Morgan Chase Bank).

From her earliest years, Filipinas was deeply devoted to family—always sharing an abundance of love. In 1946, her father had left the Philippines to provide better opportunities for his family, immigrating to Oahu, Hawaii. She did not see her father for fourteen years. Even at the age of ten, she was capably helping to raise her younger siblings. As a married woman she worked both in and outside the home. She lovingly raised her own two children and, following her divorce, returned to the family home to care for her aging parents with great devotion until their deaths. Her final duties were supporting and caring for her daughter Desiree’ with her son Glenn and daughter-in-Law-Jenifer.

Affectionately known as Fili to her friends and as Mama Fili to her beloved family members, she thoroughly enjoyed her social activities with the various Filipino Social Clubs and served as treasurer for several terms. One of her favorite pastimes was playing Mahjong with friends and family, particularly with her grandchildren with whom she shared her heritage. She was a devout Catholic for her entire life. Upon her submission to dialysis on Friday the 13th of January 2023—treatment she bravely endured for 10 years—Mama Fili and her children invited her many friends and family from across the country to pay their respects. Father Ben from Saint Patrick’s Cathedral was one of Filipina’s first visitors to present her final contrition, and he was her final visitor, enabling her to take her final Communion hours before she met her Maker.

Filipinas Palma Domingo passed six days before her former husband, Benedicto Felipe Domingo, and is survived by her children, Glenn Philip Domingo and Desiree’ Ann Domingo; her grandchildren Addison Domingo, Alexandra Domingo, and Amanda Domingo; her siblings, Amor Palma, Kenny Palma and Angelina Laoparadonchai.

Filipinas Palma Domingo left her legacy of love and devotion to friends and family, alike. Her Final resting place will be at Eternal Hills Memorial Park in Oceanside, CA. Services for Ms. Domingo will be held on Holy Thursday, April 6th, 2023, at 11:00 am. at Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, 3821 Adams Street, Carlsbad, CA 92008. Celebration of Life will follow at the home of Glenn, Jenifer, and Desiree’ Domingo, 1184 Magnolia Ave. Carlsbad, CA 92008.
