During World War II, when Charlie was 9 years old, his family was placed in internments camps in Posten, Arizona and Tule Lake, California, while his oldest brother, Yoshio, served in the U.S. Army. After the war, the family moved to Vista where Charlie graduated from Vista High in 1951, served in the Army and then entered the family farming business. Charlie married Jane Matsumoto in 1960, and they had a son, Scott in 1970.
Charlie was well known in the North County area for his fun-loving manner, generosity and delicious strawberries. He often visited his many relatives and friends to keep up to date with everyone. For many years, he started each day at the local Starbucks with his group of friends.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Jane and son, Scott, as well as his parents Uichi and Tsuru Imoto, brothers Yoshio, Tsugi, George and Kenji Imoto and sister Kazuko Kawano. He is survived by his sisters Yayoi Messersmith and Yoshiko Mizushima, as well as many relatives and friends.
A graveside service will be held at 10 am on Thursday July 11, 2024, at Eternal Hills Memorial Park, 1999 S. El Camino Real, Oceanside, CA.
