AMMON, ARTHUR THOMAS, January 29, 1922 to May 9, 2017. Art, 95, passed away in his Carlsbad home from congestive heart failure. Born in Missouri, Art spent most of his life in California and worked as a district sales manager and then as a real estate broker in North County. Civic-minded, Art was a longtime member of the Carlsbad Hi Noon Rotary, the Elks Club, the American Legion, the Knights of Columbus, and of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church where he was a Eucharistic Minister. He spent many years as a hobby award-winning animal breeder, showing may kinds of birds, rabbits, and dogs. Art enjoyed his local small church group as well as his writing group where he made many friends. Art was a voracious reader his entire life. Most importantly, Art was a devoted husband and father. He and his beloved wife Isabel were married for 71 years and had 4 children: Donna, Terry, Barry, and Dirk. Art was known for his warmth, strong faith, his sense of humor, intuition, honesty, integrity, and genuine interest in others. Art was born to Arthur and Viola Ammon in 1922. He graduated from Fremont High School in Los Angeles where he first met Isabel. At the age of 19, he joined the Navy and served as a Corpsman during World War II, leaving as a Chief Petty Officer after 4 years of service. Survivors include his wife, Isabel of Carlsbad, his children Donna Linehan (John) of Carlsbad, Terry Hendlin of Solana Beach, Barry Ammon (Maureen) of Oakland, CA., and Dirk Ammon (Dawn) of Oceanside, his grandchildren: Yogi Hendlin of Oakland, CA., Zachary Hendlin of San Francisco, Christina (Linehan) Humphries (Patrick) of San Diego, Christian Ammon of Oceanside, Ashley (Ammon) Coleman (Kyle) of Oceanside, and Ryan Ammon of Oceanside. He also leaves two great-grandchilden: Kyle and Mack Coleman. Art also leaves behind his dear nieces, Jacqueline Graham (Tom) and Bonnie Fenton (Mike). The family wants to acknowledge and thank the amazing caregivers who provided not only wonderful care but love to our parents: Pat, Margarita, Tammy, Darla, Tammy, Traci, Oswaldo, Lotus, Jose, and Maria. Donations can be made to Brother Benno’s, Casa de Amparo, or Hospice of North Coast. Services will be at Mission San Luis Rey.
