Born November 9, 1948 at Lorado, WV, he was the son of Uhel and the late Fern Adkins of Davin.
Tommy was a 1966 graduate of Man High School, served in the West Virginia Army National Guard from 1967 until 1973, and was an underground coal miner for 32 years. He was a devoted member of Bright Prospect Missionary Baptist Church, serving as pianist, deacon, teacher, and treasurer. Tommy also acted as Recording Secretary for U.M.W.A.Local Union 7555.
His favorite hobbies included hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Preceding him in death are his mother, Fern Adkins, his grandparents Tom and Allie Combs and Sampson (Shug) and Rosie Adkins, his father and mother-in-law, Roy and Marie Lusk.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Lalah Ann Lusk Adkins of Cyclone, daughter, Melinda Curry and husband John of Ottawa, and son, Thomas Aaron “Hank” Adkins of Cyclone. He also leaves behind a grandson whom he adored, Ethan John Curry of Ottawa.
In addition to his father, other survivors include his brother, Joe Adkins of Davin and his sister, Marcy and husband Lee of Colonial Beach, VA. He is also survived by brothers and sisters-in-law, Fairley and Donna Lusk of Oceana, Leroy and Ginger Lusk of Vale, NC, and Sharol and Martha Lusk of Oceana.
Also surviving Tommy are nephews Eric Lusk of Oceana, Randy Feltner and wife Katie and daughter Nora of Colonial Beach, VA, Tommy Feltner and children Wyatt, Kadin, and Emma of Colonial Beach, VA. His surviving nieces include Leisa Stewart and husband Jason and children Claire and Kenan of Lincolnton, NC, Carla Williams and husband Todd and children Carmen and Casen of Vale, NC, and Rishona Jones and husband Jacob and their precious bundle of joy due in October, of Oceana.
Tommy leaves behind numerous extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to Gideons International, PO Box 233, Oceana, WV 24870, for the purchase and placement of Memorial Bibles in Tommy’s memory.
