Helaine Myra Rothman

Helaine Rothman (September 27, 1942 – October 28, 2021) died peacefully in her home. She is survived by her loving husband, Donald, and her children Kenneth and Joanna, and their spouses and children, Marina, Kirill, Ted, Jackson, and Ryan.

Helaine received her nursing degree from Framingham Nursing School (now Framingham State College) and went on to serve as head nurse at age 21 on the surgical floor at Jacoby Hospital, where she met her husband. She was later instrumental in starting the Hospice Program at Riverview Medical Center. She worked as a Health Educator for Meridian Health System, serving as the facilitator for cancer and child birth support groups. Helaine served on many Board of Directors, including as former President of Planned Parenthood of Monmouth County. She served as the chair of the Caring Committee of her synagogue, Monmouth Reform Temple, where she and Donald were members for 50 years. Helaine received many awards during her lifetime, including the Hannah G. Solomon Award from the National Council for Jewish Women and the St. George Award from the American Cancer Society. Notably, Helaine served as a national research stakeholder and assisted in awarding grants for treatment of cancer and cancer prevention through her work at ACS.

Helaine will be remembered for her strength, wisdom, and ability to deeply connect with anyone who entered the room.

The funeral will be at Monmouth Reform Temple at 1 pm on Sunday 10/31, immediately followed by interment at Beth Israel Cemetery in Woodbridge. Friends and family are invited to gather back at the Rothman home (4 Ambassador Drive, Red Bank) from 5 to 8 pm on Sunday 10/31 and Monday 2-6pm 11/1 with a Shiva service at 4:30pm.
