Edward Elwood (Ed) New of Orange Lake, Florida, passed away peacefully in his sleep on May 20, 2013. Ed was born on March 12, 1917, in Harrisburg, Illinois. He retired from the thoroughbred horse industry after many years as a trainer and farm manager. He served in the U. S. Army in World War II in the North African - European Theater and was the proud recipient of the Bronze Battle Star Medal. For over 60 years he was a dedicated member of the Masonic Order and held the degree of Master Mason. He also was a long time member of the Protected Order of the Elks, Gainesville Lodge 990, and the Reddick VFW Post 10733.
Ed is survived by his son, James E. New, and daughter-in-law Brenda New and other family members including Bonnie and Chuck Price, Linda and Murray Tucker III and their children Sydney and Murray IV. He was preceded in death by his sister Betty Wernham and brother, Charles New.
A celebration of his life will be held May 23. 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5470 S. Pine, Ocala Florida 32670.
