Al "Ray" Harrelson

Albert Ray Harrelson, Jr., age 77, of Ocala, Florida passed away at his home on Thursday, December 28, 2023. Albert was affectionately known by "Al" or "Ray" depending on how and when you were so fortunate to have him come into your life. Al was born in Lakeland, Florida to the late Albert Ray and Mattie Lou (Cox) Harrelson, Sr.

Al grew up in Winter Haven, Florida and later joined the United States Navy. After being honorably discharged from the Navy, he started dating Ginny Thompson. They later married and created a life for themselves living mostly in the Brandon, Florida area. They were the owners of a daycare and preschool for 35 years before they retired and moved to Inverness, Florida and then to Ocala, Florida to be closer to their son.

Al enjoyed fishing and his weekly Friday movie date night with Ginny; sometimes just going for the popcorn! He was a member of First Baptist Church Inverness and cherished his relationship with the Lord.

Al was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mattie and daughter, Suzanne.

Al is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Ginny; son, Bert and his wife Beth; six grandchildren who lovingly referred to him as "Poppy," Angelica, Allison, Cameron, Nicole, Jonah, and Anna; and his one great grandson, Liam.

A celebration of life service for Al will be held Saturday, January 6, 2024 at 1:00 PM at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5740 South Pine Avenue, Ocala, Florida 34480.
