Agnes Angela George, 86, passed away on Thursday, July 17th, 2014 surrounded by her family in Ocala, FL. She was born in British Guyana and had such beautiful doll-like features, she became affectionately known to family as “Dolly”. She was the 7th of 10 children born to Ruth and Archibald Odle and was the last remaining of her siblings. While in Guyana, Dolly sang professionally and became one of Guyana’s top radio and stage performing sopranos.
Dolly immigrated to Brooklyn, NY in 1967. She became an active member of St Mark’s Episcopal Church choir. She moved to Silver Springs Shores (SSS) in Ocala 30 years ago and joined St Stephen’s Episcopal Church where she again became an active member of its choir. Additionally, Agnes was the Director of the SSS Residents Association where she served as Grand Marshal of their July 4th festivities amongst other duties for several years.
Dolly was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Joseph L. George and dear son, Michael Allen Sr. She is survived by her children: Jean George, Ronald George (Violet), Yvonne George, Judith Allen, Beverly Ann Gay (Mantovani) and Jonathan Thompson; Grandchildren: Maxine (Tony), Paul (Anna), Shaun (Roseanne), Monique (Derek), Michael, Reese (Jamie), Joseph, and Dominique; Great-grandchildren: Tariq, Tiyahni, Raena, Malik, Shanai, Gavin, Kahri, and Skylar; and many wonderful nieces and nephews. Dolly was the matriarch of the family that held us all together, she remembered all birthday’s, anniversaries, births and deaths. She will be greatly missed. Special recognition is owed to Agnes’ church family at St Stephen’s whose love and support has always been there and will always be appreciated. A visitation will be held on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 6 to 8 pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, 5740 SW Pine Ave Ocala, FL 34480. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2014, 11 am, at St Stephen’s Episcopal Church, 55 Palm Rd, Ocala, FL 34472 with burial to follow at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens, Ocala, FL. A celebration of life will be held at St Stephen’s parish hall following the burial.
