I remember when he used to try and sneak Christmas gifts on the front porch at our house and we would catch him and he would come in the house 😂

After I had Clancy, when she was only a few months old,  you were first diagnosed with cancer.  I remember sitting in the doctors office and hearing it. You were so calm.  Later that day you told me you had bargained w/God.  You said you told him if I could have my child healthy, you would give your life for her.  She was born 5 weeks early, and a true miracle, as she was perfectly healthy.  

God didn't call you on your deal, and we had 10 more years with you.  "Miracle years" really, as we learned that you should have gotten your cancer back after 2 years.    God blessed us -- as Clancy, Rory and Nick will all have such happy memories of you.  They got to know you, and you got to see them grow up (although, not completely).

You were  my best friend since before I can remember. I talked w/you literally everyday my whole entire life.  I miss your calls - right about now you'd call me.  I don't quite know how I will live w/out you...life will certainly be different.  But, as I learned w/mom's passing, the ache changes... tears turn to smiles.  I can't quite imagine that now, but somehow, I also know you will be there watching over us, perhaps w/mom at your side.  Perhaps you'll ask God to move this sadness along faster, so it is not as overwelming.   I love you both more than you will ever know.  And will think daily of the 2 angels I have in heaven.

I am thinking of you and your family during this very difficult time. Tho I never met your Dad, you have spoken so highly of both your parents over the years - that it's no wonder you are the beautiful, thoughtful person you are.  Huge hugs and love my friend ❤

I don't know that I can fully express my
thoughts yet as I still cant believe it is real.  I have dreaded this day for years as you are my biggest friend and supporter.  Our nightly phone calls are are already so missed. There is never been a day in my life that I didn't know how much you loved me and were proud of me. You always put our needs first and would drop anything for us in a heartbeat.  You truly were the most caring human I have ever met. Your love for us had no limits. I could spend hours telling stories of how amazing you were and how loved we were by you, but I will share only one as I believe it was probably the first time I truly "got" how much you loved me . My senior year in high school after I was accepted into Bradley, I came home to find a Bradley shirt at the house. I asked you how you got it. Your answer to me was that you and Chuck had driven down to Peoria to see the campus since you had to see the place I was going to live for 4 years with your own eyes. I always knew you loved me,  but that day meant so
much to me as it truly showed  me the depth of your love for me.  I  knew me moving away would hurt for you, but I knew how incredibly proud of me you were in those years I lived away.  More recently, you confirmed it to me in one of our last conversations when you told me how proud you were that I had graduated college with honors again and explained to me why it made you so happy.  I love you. I miss you and I know you miss us too. Thank you for always putting is first and thanks for being the most amazing grandpa to Nick

I still can't believe you are gone. I keep waiting for your morning call "Jean, it's dad, everything is ok. I will Talk to you later, I love you Dad". I heard those words every morning for years.  You are my hero, my fighter and greatest role model. You taught me everything I know except how to live without you. I know I will see you again in Heaven and this isn't goodbye but until we meet again.

Bill was a great man who's love for the Cubs came in 2nd place His love for his daughters always was number 1.  He made the world a better place and he truly will be missed.
