She was born on August 1, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to James and Helen Fiffles and was the youngest of four children. She met the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Santucci, while working at her family’s restaurant (Dean’s) in Oak Lawn, Illinois. They married in 1961 and were inseparable for nearly 63 years. They were blessed with 3 children: Peter (Kristine) Santucci, James (Mary) Santucci, and Angela Santucci. Peggy was an extraordinary grandmother of six grandchildren: Stephen, Kayla, Katherine, Caroline, Miranda, and Sierra. She also had many nieces and nephews that she cherished.
Peggy and Tony raised their 3 children in Oak Lawn where Peggy was a dedicated member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church. She spent many years volunteering at both her church and children’s schools. She eagerly served as a Sunday School Teacher, Picture Lady, and was an active PTA member. Peggy was a licensed real estate agent and helped many families buy and sell their homes.
Peggy was JOY personified. She carried this joy and zest for life with her wherever she went and warmly shared it with her family and friends. Her family was her biggest source of pride and she dedicated her entire self to their care, well-being, and protection. Peggy was the heart and soul of the family. Always on the go with a smile while planning the next family adventure to countless museums, sporting events, or the next family vacation. Her love for her family knew no limits.
She was also known for her incredible sense of humor and quick wit. Peggy loved a good laugh and always found the fun in all that she did. She enjoyed hosting parties with an emphasis on laughter while serving her loved ones an abundance of food. She loved to read, listen to opera, cheer on her Chicago Cubs, play Keno, and talk about her beloved Great Danes (Bambi and Beauty). She had boundless amounts of energy and a passion for endless debates, often defending the underdog. Peggy was a night owl that loved to gather around her kitchen table to play games, share great meals, and bask in the light and energy of her family.
Peggy taught us that strong family roots are the key to successfully navigating life’s triumphs, trials, and tribulations. Loving unconditionally and with great joy is the indelible legacy she leaves behind for all of us to follow.
