Patricia Lee Dodson, age 89, of Gainesville, Florida, passed peacefully on August 22, 2023. Patricia was born on May 1, 1934 to her parents, Eleanor and Homer Dodson in Chicago, Illinois. She worked in the construction industry and retired after 40 years as an executive secretarial assistant. Patricia dedicated her life to her work, parents, and family. Her pride and joy were her nieces and nephews. Patricia wrote music, loved to sing, and played the piano. She was an avid gardener with concentration on flowering plants. Over all her years, Patricia loved animals especially dogs and birds. Patricia was a baseball fan of the Tampa Bay Rays and the Chicago Cubs. Some of her favorite things to do was to travel and go out to eat. As part of Aunt Pat’s travels, the cars she owned were pristine and well cared for even in the winters of Chicago. After retirement, Patricia remained active, using her secretarial expertise by serving on community boards and committees. Her family and friends will always remember her as a humble, dedicated, selfless and loving person.
Patricia is survived by her, nieces and nephews Nanette Williams, Ron Kewin, Bea Jay Chew, Charles Kewin, John Chew, and Lorin Todd-Hollingshead. Several great nieces and nephews, and several great, great nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her mother Eleanor Dodson and father Homer Dodson, her sisters Shirley Kewin and Bonnie Chew, and her niece Sherri Chew.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Chapel Hill Garden Cemetery, 11333 South Central Avenue, Oak Lawn, Illinois from 11AM - 1PM. Inurnment to follow.
As a life-long animal lover, donations to your local animal shelter would be an appropriate tribute to Patricia. The family would like to thank the staff, physicians, and Pastoral Services of UF Health Shands Hospital, and Haven Hospice in Gainesville, Florida for their care and compassion.
