FULL OBITUARY
Martha Jean Fox, born June 26, 1925, passed away peacefully on Feb. 8 in Mount Vernon, Ohio, after a sudden decline in health. Martha, or “Marty” as she was known to friends and loved ones, was born Martha Jean Hadley in Toledo, Ohio. Soft of voice and strong of will, she grew up in Morgan Park in the Chicago area suburbs. Marty spent her career as an Executive Secretary for the Coca Cola Company. Fiercely loyal, she never even sipped another brand of soft drink. Marty loved all animals and could remember by name every dog she ever met. She gave generously to animal welfare causes. A self-proclaimed "Chicago Girl," Marty solved the Chicago Tribune crossword in ink until the last few weeks of her life. She moved to Florida twice and returned to Chicago both times. Her first Florida sojourn was with her late husband, R. Donald Fox, and the second, to live with her late sister, Ellen Crowden, following Don’s passing. Last summer, she enjoyed a visit to family in Ohio, where she spent many happy summers as a child surrounded by aunts, uncles and cousins. She decided to move to the Country Club Retirement Home in Mount Vernon to be closer to family - and because they had an ice cream social every afternoon! Marty was blessed to be in such a caring environment when she became too frail to manage on her own. Marty is survived by her cousins Frank (Elinor) and Larry (Anna) Bartlett; loving nieces Jane Townsend (Pete), Elizabeth Vores (Mike), and Marilyn Slesinger (David); grandnieces Katherine Townsend and Christina Slesinger; and grandnephews Henry Townsend, Tim Slesinger and Joseph Kloo, son of her late niece, Susan Crowden Kloo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, Utah 84741. www.bestfriends.org.
