Our deepest sympathies on the loss of a wonderful man.  Having had the opportunity to work with Dan was an amazing experience. Dan was truly one of the most intelligent people I have ever had the opportunity to work with.  His wit kept you on your toes, and always made for an interesting class. I will cherish my memories of his days as an educator, and as someone I will always have tremendous respect for. What a tremendous loss to all his loved ones, family, & friends. So..Lots of great memories of Dan from school and 50 years of Kahoonies but I really always think of his infectious smile especially when he was mocking someone and they did not catch on. The best tribute t Dan was when both my daughters said he was like their favorite uncle and the memories they had from the dissertation to Monica on how it is not a sport unless it involves a ball and Bethanne going to school at Purdon't. He had a big heart, loved everyone close to him and not so much those he didn't like but I bet he prayed for them. His Irish pride above his Chicago pride (except for Green Bay). Enjoyed so many of his relatives visiting for Football and his Dad. (Never forgot his trip here to have a last drink with me.) I cannot accept the fact that I will never hear that laugh. (often at me deservedly so)  His love for pork roast and a mug of cold beer. He was so mechanically inclined and could fix anything. (just by calling). I wish we could be there. Hugs to you all.

Mr. Maloney's birthday was 3 days after mine. I always remember hanging out at my best friend's house (Shannon) celebrating our birthdays over a summer break. It was something so simple but was always a happy time. I also remember Mr. Maloney helping Shannon and I with dreaded Chemistry homework in high school. He was well respected in his field. We saw that clearly when we talked to anyone who knew him. He will be missed. I will especially miss his smile. RIP Mr. Maloney.

I had the pleasure of spending time with Daniel Maloney on several occasions over the years, the most notable of which is at my engagement party in 2018. His son Kelly, who is my friend and officiant, invited both Dan and Judy to my party, and even though they hadn’t met my or my fiancé’s parents, they all got along swimmingly at the “adults’ table.” Dan and Judy were the life of the party; their love for one another was apparent and they radiated joy to everyone around them. It speaks to both of their characters that they were able to join a party of mostly strangers and walk out feeling like they were always part of the family. I’m glad Mr. Maloney had his wife and son with him all the way to the end. All my love to the Maloney clan. 

Mr.  Maloney is one of my all time favorite teachers. I was in his AP Biology class in 1992-1993 and also knew him as a track coach (though I was NOT a hurdler!).  He was funny and kind and unconventional, and had a lasting influence on my academic career for sure. Some of my favorite Mr. Maloney memories include: his obsessive timing of anything and everything with his trusty stopwatch, including the 5 minutes between class periods, the labeled brain he kept in his classroom (!), and how he loved to stump us on tests. I know he will be missed deeply by many.

Daniel Maloney believed that the Lord Jesus Christ is his savior.
Dan believed that the best day of his life was when he married Judy.
Dan believed in family and loved, cherished and provided for his children Molly, Shannon and Kelly.  He also deeply loved his grandchildren Alex, Max and Josephine.
Dan believed in Science and how it orders and informs daily life. 
Dan believed in education, that knowledge is power. These beliefs made him an outstanding teacher and student. 
Dan believed that his beloved Fighting Irish football team will one day again win The National Championship
Dan believed in friends especially his friends. Dan had many great friends because he was a great friend to all.

My family has known the Maloney Family for a very long time. Mr. Maloney was the track coach at OLCHS.  The track team would toilet paper his house every year we won Conference.   A hurdle was left in the front lawn for him to practice with his daughter. So very sorry for your loss. He loved his family and grandkids very much.  We would see Grandma and Papa taking the grandkids on the Frozen Metra Ride during Christmas. God Bless Dan and his family at this very difficult time.

I first met Daniel at Mother McAuley in 1983. He kept cutting thru my classroom, he found it amusing. We had the same philosophy and style. As we became friends, we joined our families, spending decades celebrating holidays together. From hours and hours of pool volleyball, to a catastrophic camping trip, we watched our children grow from babies to successful adults. He loved our game nights and most significantly playing pub trivia as the “Merciless Nones”.  Though many people knew Dan as a teacher, his #1 priority was his faith, with years of performing perpetual adoration. A close #2 was his devotion to Judy’s happiness. He loved being her husband. After that, his children, he would do anything for them..even peeling grapes for a young Molly. I have no doubt that when Dan met Jesus last week, He greeted him with, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” God bless you Daniel.

Dan was a beautiful, caring man & treasured colleague .... lots of wonderful Oak Lawn High School memories!

My connections with Dan are both plentiful and diverse. I taught science with him, coached against him in track & field, participated in countless trivia games and game nights, and my younger sisters were even babysitters for Dan & Judy's children many years ago. I've known Dan & Judy since their days of living in Midlothian approximately 40 years ago. Throughout all of those years I have always found Dan to be incredibly intelligent, passionate about all things related to Notre Dame, and very devoted to his family. Our deepest condolences go out to Judy and the entire Maloney family. I will miss you my friend.

Judy and family, our hearts broke when we heard about Dan’s passing. You’ve been in our thoughts and will continue to be. You were the most wonderful neighbors, always looking out for us, and I know James misses his view out the window seeing “Mr. Dan” cutting the grass. Our deepest condolences as you navigate this difficult path. 

We met Dan and Judy in 1974 when Dan and Mike attended Chicago Medical School. Since then we have shared so much in life: uproarious trips, bets on March Madness, crazy games which often included Dan’s betting stash of hundreds of pennies, Dan and Judy’s beautiful wedding (Dan adored Judy), the joyous birth of all our children and grandchildren (Dan so loved his family), and just every day happenings such as his love of teaching. We also shared the sadness of the loss of our parents and family members. Now we have the heavy loss of Dan. “May the road rise up to meet you...may God hold you in the palm of His hand” our dear Irish friend! With love.

     My condolences to Judy, Molly, Shannon, Kelly,  his grandchildren, extended families and his friends. I know he is loved by many.
     Dan Maloney, as a person, was a rich tapestry. He had many loves and interests that he held dear to his heart. Of course, his greatest love was his family, as I cannot think of anyone who loved his wife more than Daniel, and his children were never second. If you were his friend, then you were his friend for life; as I'm sure, his extended Notre Dame family can attest. He was loyal to a fault.
     Daniel was also a man of great faith, he loved the Church and all it's teachings. There were many, many years that Dan kept the midnight vigil at his parish sacrarium to guard the tabernacle, and pray during "Perpetual Adoration." 
     Dan was a dedicated and life long educator. He was always  a student himself,  as he read constantly.  He was also a great competitor;  from the time that he participated in youth sports, as well as high school and collegiate sports, until that time when he could only watch the contests. He loved athletic competition;  his teams especially,  and would always risk a wager if you were game.
     Dan was also a proud man. Proud of his wife Judy and his family. (His children, grandchildren, parents and siblings)  He was proud of his Irish heritage and his Notre Dame education,  as well as his extended Notre Dame family of classmates and their families.
I am proud to have known him.

Kelly, my deepest sympathies to you and your family. I didn’t know your Dad, but I feel like I did from seeing the happy, family pictures you posted of him when you were together. He raised a wonderful son and you honor him every day by being the sweet, loving person that is you. 

To the family of Mr. Maloney. My deepest condolences. I thank you for sharing him with me during my 4 years at OLCHS (95-99). He was my teacher for several classes, my track coach, and the leader of the Kiwanis Club. I probably spent more time with him than anyone else during these years. He was so very influential to me and I'm certain changed the course of my life. I'm not even sure I actually liked science or just liked being in his classes yet somehow this transformed into me completing medical school. He was superb at all his roles and really believed in his students and student athletes so much more than we did ourselves. I cannot thank you enough, Mole Man. Your memories, fun stories, and life lessons will never be forgotten. Cheers to a great educator, role model, and just absolutely wonderful person, you are greatly missed.

What a beautiful life your Dad lived. While we never had the honor to meet him, we can tell how wonderful he must have been just by knowing you. We knew Kelly's parents were incredible people even before we met them, because our dear friend Kelly is the kindest, most courageous person we know. We were lucky enough to meet Mr Maloney once and he was so lovely and generous to all of Kelly's friends who were acting like fools all over New Orleans - we are so thankful to have met him. I will miss Dan so much! So many memories of family Notre Dame fan get together. Too many to count. I cherish Dan and his entire family. He will be missed!

To the Family of Mr. Maloney, 

Mr. Maloney was one of my favorite teachers at OLCHS (Class of 1995).  His love of science and biology was infectious and it didn't take me long to want to do well in his class; I looked up to him and really appreciated the time he took with me. He taught me how to study properly and without that foundation I never would have become an ecologist for the Department of the Interior. 

Thank you for letting us borrow him; he meant a lot to so many young students and gave us each the crazy idea that we could be more. I will always remember him speed-walking down the hall, walking fast but always with a smile and a greeting. 

God speed Mr. Maloney, you will surely be missed. 

I will never forget how Uncle Dan was always so friendly and kind to me through the years.  I'm so sad to hear of his passing.  I'm sending love and hugs to Auntie Judy, Molly, Shannon and Kelly Jo.


I have such great memories of Mr. Maloney & your entire family.   So many little holidays (especially 4th of July, NYE, etc.) spent with our family.   I fondly remember Mr. Maloney loved pools (& pool volleyball), trivia games, ND, and your family.   He always had ‘fun’ opinions on Hoosiers & Spartans ;).   He was so smart & witty too!    So sorry for this huge loss.    Praying for peace & comfort.   

I started my teaching career with Dan at Mother McAuley in 1980 and my husband and I have stayed lifelong friends with Dan and Judy. I have never met a more intelligent man, dedicated educator or a man who loved his wife and family more. 
I have always looked up to him for his wisdom and dedication to what he held dear. It has been an honor and a blessing to have shared so many special and dear memories with him and Judy. The world has lost a great man , but we are all better people from sharing our lives with him. God speed my friend.

Mr. Maloney made science fun. He was my high school chemistry teacher. The stories he would regale us with served to make us excited about the material we were learning.  He was sensitive and encouraged me, even when I was too sensitive to raise my hand to provide an answer I knew but was too shy to say. He encouraged me to be a conscientious learner. And he melted my heart years later on Facebook when he described me as a good student. 

I remember all the times we played pool
Volley Ball during the summers, especially girls against guys. The heated trivia pursuit games and the discussion as to whether Father Christmas  was the same thing as St Nick. Still laugh about that. Always enjoyed our trivia nights at Carriag Pub and when Dan would bet a postage stamp!  Best knowledge of music ever!

Mr. Maloney is a part of my memories growing up, on Harnew Rd South. I still picture him dressed up in his Irish gear, loading up his car and heading to South Bend with Mrs. Maloney to catch a Notre Dame game. He was the true Fighting Irish, right to his very last day on this earth. May he rest in peace, and may peace be with you, Mrs. Maloney, Molly, Shannon and Kelly. 

 I’ve known Mr. Maloney pretty much all of my life. I’ll always remember the fun times celebrating holidays together. Game  nights on New Years Eve and countless pool volleyball games for 4th of July and Labor Day. He loved games, good conversation, and most of all he loved his family very much. He will be missed. My condolences to the entire Maloney Family.

The only way I've met Mr. Maloney is through his amazing son, Kelly. Having Kelly in our lives has made it clear to us that Daniel Maloney was a wonderful person because he raised a great son. Dear Maloney Family,
Dan Maloney was my brother in law for 48 years he was always interesting and funny. He had a great sense of humor and thought outside the box. He loved Trivia and little known facts and that is why he was so engaging. Patrick Maloney RIP and I enjoyed visiting with him and Judy in Lake Geneva or at their home. I am so very sorry for the family's loss and there are few word that can express my condolences.
