On the evening of February 13th, Thomas “Tom” James Seluzicki passed away peacefully at the age of 64 surrounded by his wife of 40 years, his two daughters, and his sister. Tom was diagnosed with an extremely rare form of pancreatic cancer around Thanksgiving of 2023, which he battled against valiantly. Tom was born to Charles and Ursula Seluzicki on February 16, 1959. He graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic High School in 1977 and Towson University in 1982 with a degree in Accounting. Tom spent his entire life in Baltimore, MD, where he built a life as a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather. He was the beloved husband of Jann Seluzicki (nee Webb); devoted father of Jennifer West and her husband Brandon and Caitlin Seluzicki; loving grandfather of Ava West; dear brother of Charles Seluzicki and Judy and Steve Britz; loving uncle of Christina, Adam, Nick, David and Sarah; dear cousin of Jim and Kay Pitts and John Pitts.
Tom was a CPA and worked for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs at the Office of Inspector General for almost 15 years, where he made many friends and enjoyed the company of his colleagues. Tom loved his family, history, visiting museums, reading, and metal detecting. The things that brought him the most joy were family day trips to Lancaster, PA, Washington, D.C., and Gettysburg, playing with his grand-daughter, Ava, and grocery shopping. Tom loved nothing more than to find a good deal on Pepperidge Farm cookies, gluten-free goodies for his daughter, Cait, and steaks. Although Tom openly confessed to never being much of an athlete, he loved golfing with his son-in-law. When Ava came along in 2022, it was clear that she was by far his favorite person and no one else could compare. Tom never missed an opportunity to play farm with her, take pictures with her, or chase her around the living room as she shrieked with joy. Even though Tom’s family joked that no one could ever compare to his perfect little Ava, they all knew their Dad never missed an opportunity to brag about them and any accomplishments growing up. Tom was so proud of Jennifer becoming a dentist and Caitlin working towards her Ph.D.
A highlight of Tom’s 2023 was his trip to Greece with his wife Jann and daughter Cait. As a history buff, Tom made it a point to go to every historical and archaeological site included in his ticket, only skipping one museum because he, “guessed he didn’t NEED to see any more statues without arms.” Tom said hiking to the top of the Acropolis “was the coolest thing he has ever seen or done in his entire life.” After exploring Athens, Tom relaxed with his wife at a resort for a few days with all-inclusive Greek food, desserts, and beverages, for well-deserved rest and relaxation like he had never experienced before.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Schimunek Funeral Home (9705 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD 21236) on Monday February 19th from 3-5 pm and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Tuesday, February 20th at St. Joseph Fullerton Catholic Church (8420 Belair Road, Baltimore, MD 21236). Following the funeral mass, Tom will be laid to rest in Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens (200 E. Padonia Road, Timonium, MD 21093).
