Santiago Luis Pou, affectionately know as “Chago”, passed on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, with his daughter, Marina Benner at his side. He was the loving companion of Patricia Marruffo of over 33 years and is survived his children, Carmen Pou, Luis Pou, James Pou, Marina Benner, Francisco deVarona, and Mariastel King and grandchildren, Vivian Pou, Kevin, Nathaniel and Charlotte Lynch, and Tristan deVarona. He was the loving brother and uncle to Monse, Glen and Carmen Velez and a dear and kind friend to Joan and Herb Gampel and Jennifer Stankiewicz.
A native resident of Caguas, Puerto Rico, Santiago moved to Baltimore in 1976. Although well-educated with master’s degrees in social work and PhD in Economics, Santiago loved working with his hands and started a very successful Stone Masonry Business in the Baltimore Area called S and P Enterprises. Much of his work can be found in many historic neighborhoods of Baltimore City and County.
Santiago had a passion for helping others and spent many years volunteering at the Spanish Apostolate, Esperanza Center in downtown Baltimore. As a volunteer, he spent much of his time offering support and education to Hispanic and Latino Immigrants in this area.
In addition to his service work, Santiago was a die-hard Baltimore Orioles Fan and spent many summer days cheering on his beloved team at Camden Yards.
Santiago had a life well lived and will be remember most by his infectious smile, his graceful dance moves, his beautiful voice, and his attentive ear.
A receiving of friends will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2021 from 3:00PM to 5:00 PM at Schimunek Funeral Home, 9705 Belair Road, Nottingham, MD 21236, followed by a receiving of friends from 7:00 to 9:00pm. A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, October 21, 2021, at 10am at St. Francis de Sales Church, 1450 Abingdon Road, Abingdon, MD 21009
