John J. Peters Jr.

John J Peters was born in Baltimore, MD on March 26, 1925 and passed away on June 27, 2021 at the Birmingham VA Medical Center. Mr. Peters was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He married Frances Margaret Rohe at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church on September 16, 1945. They were married for over 75 years.

After the war, Mr. Peters joined the Veterans Administration, now the Department of Veterans Affairs, while attending the University of Baltimore. After receiving a Bachelor of Science in Financial Management, he advanced in management at the VA - retiring as the Western Regional Director in 1983. Mr. Peters and his wife moved to Birmingham, AL where he became an Associate Dean at UAB’s School of Medicine. He retired from UAB in 1992.

Mr. Peters enjoyed golf as a long time member of the Riverchase Country Club. He also spent time boating and fishing, and he especially enjoyed vacationing with family.

Mr. Peters is survived by his wife, Frances R. Peters, son, John C. Peters (Nancy), and three daughters, Francine Montgomery, Karen Martin (Jay), and Lisa Martin. He had 8 grandchildren, Christina Montgomery, Steven Montgomery (Carolyn), Scott Peters (Amanda), Michael Martin (Megan), Danielle Greco (Robert), Jonathan Martin (Sarah), Tyler Martin, and Josh Martin, and 6 great grandchildren.

Mr. Peters will be buried in Baltimore at the Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery near his parents and a sister, on Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at 11:30 AM.
