A terrific teacher and wonderful friend.  Greatly loved and missed.  Gone but never forgotten.  

I was so sorry to hear of John’s passing.  We all enjoyed his visits with us in Baltimore when he was driving a truck and I loved our visits to Thurmont sometimes sharing the bed in his small room upstairs.  I probably took it for granted at the time but he was a wonderful role model and I always looked up to him.  Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss of this wonderful man. So very sorry to hear of your loss. Our hearts hurt and we pray that you find comfort in all the wonderful words from family and friends and in all the memories you hold in your heart.

We lived on Penn Ave until last year and were John and Marion's "backyard" neighbors. We moved just before John did.  They were awesome neighbors - always friendly, gracious and fun to be around. We also appreciated the fabulous produce offered from their garden every summer.

I'm sending my condolences to John's entire family.   I'm a retired teacher & administrator of Baltimore County Schools & John was my personnel officer in the Southwest area for many years.  He was so good at this job & knew each one of us personally!  We worked together in the Education Department at Loyola after our BCPS days - he guided the way for me, as a newcomer to this position.  We remained friends for many years & kept in touch by phone.   I'm saddened to hear of his death & the loss of a good friend.  


John was a beloved member of Seven Oaks Senior Center. He was always cheerful and smiling anytime we saw him. He went out of his way to say hello to staff each day  either coming or going from the gym. He will be greatly missed by many at the Center.

Mr. John was a close family friend to our family for as long as I can remember. I treasure the days when we watched the Mount St. Mary basketball games, he coached our basketball teams, we worked hard at the muscular dystrophy events. He did not know a stranger and had fantastic bearhugs! Please know that you are all in our prayers during this challenging time.

I remember John when we both worked at Greenwood for the Baltimore County Public Schools. The teachers he hired always expressed appreciation and admiration for the manner in which he represented the county school system.  To this day they are proud to say "John Bailey hired me". He cared about people and the teaching profession which made him a valued member of our staff.

My wife, Sue who was hired by John, wish to express our sympathy to the family. Our thoughts and prays are with you. Take care.

John, Carol Anne & family...there are not enough words to articulate what my heart feels for all of you with the passing of Mr. John, nor to express what he meant to me.  As I so loving referred to him, Big J.  Both he & Mrs. Marion were like my second parents.  A devoted &  godly family to be admired & respected as well as loved.  Big J gave everything he had and was an amazing prayer warrior.  His smile, laughter & wisdom will remain with me forever.  Knowing he,  Mrs. Marion, Tom & Stephen are now reunited brings joy and hope.  If you know the Baileys...you are family.  Prayers continue for the family.  The love and memories shall never fade.  Praising God to have known such a man as John Bailey and his family.

Mr. Bailey was a friend of our whole family all my life. He worked with my Dad and he interviewed me for my first teaching job. I remember when he and his family would come to our home to enjoy a summers picnic and swim. Mr. Bailey was always cheerful and showed interest in everyone. 
When I first married and had little ones, Carol Ann was our babysitter for many years. Mr. Bailey shared his cheerful personality with his children. He lives on in their lives! 


I have fond memories of visiting Uncle John and my cousins as a child. He was always warm and welcoming and I always picture him in my mind laughing with a smile on his face. He seemed to take the exceptionally difficult circumstances that life brought him with patience and positivity. You could tell that family was of utmost importance to him and it was nowhere more evident than in the way he unfailingly committed himself to the love and care of Steve and Tom as they made that inevitable heartbreaking journey with MS from childhood to wheelchair bound adults. I also greatly appreciated that he was able to be there to hold my Mom’s hand and be by her bedside in her final moments when I was unable to when she passed away in 2014. Now, more than ever, our world needs men of character and commitment to family, like John Bailey, and now we have one less of those among us. Thank you Uncle John for modeling the heart of a Godly man and father to us all.


Uncle John, I know you can hear me. I am sad that you departed this world but know that you are joyful being reunited with those who passed on before you and who you fiercely loved.  You were such an intricate part of my childhood, and I feel blessed that we remained connected into my adult years. Thank you for having me in your home for many summers...thank you, John and Carol Anne,  for allowing me to be a temporary sibling. I feel fortunate I was able to be with you at the recent family reunion and receive one final time the best bear hug from the bear hug master. Hugs and prayers to the family who remain on earth, for you, Dear Uncle, will be greatly missed.

To John Jr, Carol Anne and their families.   I am so sadden  by the loss of your dad.  He was a true friend and neighbor of our family as we all have been. Good friends   We had many memories   of our friendship.    I know he  and your mom cared for so many. I do not know what I would have done without their support when Frank died.   He and your mom helped me with advice  for Amy. I was always  willing to be on the team for the boys. That was an honor.  .   We have so many coincidences between our families   He even got my Steven to go to his beloved Mount .  Please know I am available for anything I can do for you all. You all are in my prayers. I work at Oak Crest in the Philanthropy office. We were filming our annual telethon for the benevolent care fund and the theme was Its A Wonderful Life. He walked into my office and said, hi I’m John Bailey and I’m like of course you are. I soon realized he was John Bailey and remembered that I actually knew him too. I was the District Director at the Muscular Dystrophy Association when Steve and Tom where ambassadors. It definitely is a small world and he had a wonderful life.  

John, Carol Ann,  Sorry to hear about your dad. Gather strength from Faith, Family & Friends to help you through this difficult time. He had great faith with the Lord. He is in good hands with God, your Mom, Steve, & Tom. Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

To have known John Bailey and to have worked with him was truly a blessing.  He was superb in his personnel position and dedicated to doing the best he could for all teachers in the school system.  I credit him with helping to save the life of a teacher who was addicted to a substance that would have soon taken his life; that teacher did too. He was always upbeat and positive, had a tremendous sense of humor, and was a fine God-fearing man.  Alma Smith reconnected the two of us not so long and during our hour-long conversation, we talked about getting together post-Covid 19.  I so admired his dedication to family.  Rest in peace, John.

John was a fellow teacher and coach at Hereford High School. He always had a great smile and friendly word for everyone. He and  Jim Kennedy were great sport fans and can now cheer together again.


I am so sorry to hear of John's passing. I have wonderful memories sharing special times with the entire family. To John and Carolyn, I hope you find comfort and knowing that your dad is with your mom and brothers. Tom and I will keep you and your entire family and our thoughts and prayers.

My beautiful teacher, mentor, dear friend.  I will miss you so much.  A blessing to talk with you 3 days before you passed.   A chance for a special goodbye.  I thank God for your friendship and know that you are in your beloved Savior's Arms today.

I am so sorry for your loss. I was blessed to know John from St Joseph Church.John would come in and chat with me about the Outer Banks, Church, and the Bible study he would attend at the Parish center.When John moved I had the honor of getting his lawn mower.He said he would sell it to me for one dollar. He never took the dollar lol.John was the kindest man I knew I will him.
