Returned home to the Lord Sunday, March 25, 2012 at the age 93. Predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Ann Schmidt; sister, Regina Miller; and brothers, E. Paul Dyson and Robert Dyson. He is survived by his only son, Paul R. Schmidt; grandson, Robert William Schmidt; niece, Jeanne Adde Hughes; and nephew, Carroll Snyder.
Bill was a longtime member of St. Michael the Archangel parish and the Secular Franciscans. During WWII, he worked at Glenn L. Martin Co. building war planes, and later owned his own company, Bill Schmidt Cleaners. Together with his brother Paul, he invented a variation on the game of chess called Orbital Chess which was marketed and sold during the 1970’s. Bill loved fishing and golf, but his favorite activity was being a dad and spending time with his son. “The World’s Greatest Dad” will be loved and missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to gather at Miller-Dippel Funeral Home Inc. 6415 Belair Road Baltimore, MD 21206 on Sunday from 3-5. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 am at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
