Roberta Ann (Rollins) Wallace, age 73, long time resident of Wethersfield, beloved wife of Mark S. Wallace, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 4, 2024, after a hard-fought battle with cancer with her loving family surrounding her. She was born in Quincy, Massachusetts on February 20, 1951, the eldest child of the late Elton and Phyllis (Downie) Rollins.
Roberta was a graduate of Braintree, MA High School, Class of 1969, where she met and began dating her future husband. She graduated from Colby College in 1973 with a BA and earned a Master’s in Library Science in 1994 from Southern CT State College. She did this part time over seven years while still working full time and raising her two boys, Brian and Greg.
Roberta worked at The Hartford as a Claim Adjuster for several years and later enjoyed a 25-year career as a Library Media Specialist in two elementary schools: Hanmer School in Wethersfield and Gilead Hill School in Hebron.
She was married to Mark for 51 years. They traveled to many countries along with very close friends. Her “bucket list” was always full. They enjoyed going to the theater and spending time with their family and many friends. She especially enjoyed her time with her grandchildren, Zack and Kylie. Roberta was a devoted fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She was an avid reader and participated in two Book Clubs as well as two Bible study groups. She also loved walking, especially in our favorite place in Florida with very close friends, as well as Yoga and Zumba.
Roberta is survived by her husband, Mark; her sons, Brian Wallace of Rocky Hill and Greg Wallace and his wife, Julie of Westwood, MA and her beloved grandchildren, Zack and Kylie of Westwood. She also leaves two brothers and a sister-in-law, Phil and Charlene of Whitman, MA and Rick Rollins of New Bern, NC, and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Becky Wallace of Bluffton, SC and Joe Wallace of Bluffton, SC, as well as many loving nieces, nephews and several cousins. In addition to her parents, Roberta was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Peter Wallace and her sister-in-law, Carolyn Wallace. Special thanks to all of the nurses and doctors at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Starling Physicians Infusion Center.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 15 at 11 a.m. at St. James Church of St. Josephine Bakhita Parish, 767 Elm Street, Rocky Hill. Everyone is asked to please go directly to the church. Inurnment will follow in the columbarium at Village Cemetery, Wethersfield. There are no calling hours. The D’Esopo Funeral Chapel, Wethersfield has been entrusted with Roberta’s arrangements.
