Of Norwood, passed away peacefully on New Year's Eve morning Sunday December 31st, 2023, after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family in Newton - Wellesley Hospital at the age of 89.
Born on March 25, 1934, in Brighton; beloved daughter of the late John J. and Mary C. Boyle.
Mary graduated from Saint Columbkille High School in 1951; she continued her education at Boston State Teachers College graduating with a Bachelor degree in education in 1955. A pioneer for her time, Mary also completed a Master of Education degree in 1961. She had been employed by the Town of Norwood and served as a kindergarten teacher for over forty years until her retirement in 1995. She made lifelong friends in Norwood and always enjoyed meeting her former students and parents at local places and events.
She lived life to the fullest, revolving around her family, her faith and service to others. Her family was always first and foremost, she cherished the time spent with her family. She was kind, caring, compassionate and a bright light to others. She had a quick wit and keen sense of humor, amazing memory and always had a twinkle in her beautiful blue eyes. Mary was a woman of great faith and was an active member of Saint Catherine of Siena Church in Norwood.
Mary loved visiting with friends at Norwood Irish club. She also enjoyed many trips to Ireland and her collection of Irish sweaters. Mary was quite active with her bowling leagues as well as golfing at Lost Brook with Hell’s Bells. Mary was also creative and enjoyed painting, poetry and quite the talent when it came to the arts. Many of her friends know that Mary loved horse racing, playing cards and trips to local casinos. She made Norwood her home and considered the community her extended family. It was hard to go somewhere with Mary and not have her see a former student.
Mary is survived by her loving sibling John T. Boyle of Marshfield; cherished nieces & nephews Marycarol McBain, Christine Callahan, Jay McNeill, Jack McNeill, Mike McNeill, Kate Paquin, MaryTheresa Parsons, John T. Boyle Jr, Kathleen McGonigle, Michael Boyle, and Patricia Boyle McKenna. She was also blessed with 17 grandnieces and nephews, who adored spending time with her. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Boyle, her sister Katherine B. McNeill and brother-in-law Jimmy McNeill and sister-in-law Mary Ward Boyle.
Visiting Hours will be held in the Gillooly Funeral Home, 126 Walpole St., (Rt. 1A), NORWOOD, on Friday, January 5th, from 3-7pm. A Funeral Mass in celebration of Mary's life will be held at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Norwood, on Saturday morning Jan. 6th at 10 AM. (Please go directly to Church).
