Edward Joseph Sweeney, 89, of Norwood, passed peacefully on March 10, 2021. Born October 5, 1931 to Joseph and Mary (McPartland) Sweeney, he was the beloved husband of the late Barbara (Dalton) Sweeney. Ed was passionate about life; awakening to a new day and experiencing what it had in store for him. He was an avid railroad fan; Ed authored rail publications and coordinated a local rail enthusiast group. He loved jazz, painting in oil and other mediums, building model trains, traveling, and gardening. Ed graduated from Boston University then served in the Unites States Air Force. He worked for many years as the Director of Public Relations for GCA Corporation.
He is survived by his loving children, Janet Rico and her husband Arthur of Wrentham, Patricia Fox and her husband David from Lottsburg, VA, and Joseph Sweeney and his wife Kathleen (Clifford) of New Canaan, CT. He leaves six grandchildren, Kaite, Michelle, Daniel, Matthew, Patrick, and Caroline. He was predeceased by his wife, Barbara, and by his granddaughter, Lauren.
Services will be private during this time of Covid. A celebration of Ed’s life will be held at a later date.
