Sylvia L. Hubbard

Sylvia was born on February 20, 1934 in Schenevus, NY to the late Lloyd and Hilda (Smith) Larson. Her childhood was spent in Westford, NY graduating from high school in 1952. She attended Oneonta State College, graduating in 1955. Following her graduation, she taught in Schenectady for one year. In 1956, she married Charles W. Hubbard, moved to Norwich and was a mother, housekeeper and kindergarten teacher for the Norwich School System retiring in 1995 after 30 years of service. Sylvia loved to garden and follow her five children and 10 grandchildren through all of their band competitions and sporting events for many years. In addition to her children and grandchildren, Sylvia was blessed with 11 great-grandchildren. In 2013, she moved to an apartment at Chenango Valley Home where she received excellent care for many years. She was proud to be a part of making the book of the history of the Canasawacta Home.

Sylvia is survived by her children, Ann (Ray) Meyer, of Roanoke, VA; Joan (Tom) Thompson, of Norwich; Judy (Dean) Phetteplace, of Greensboro, NC; Tim (Kathy) Hubbard, of Norwich; and Karen (Doug) Franklin, of Kernersville, NC; her grandchildren, Kyle Meyer, Amanda Downey, Shane Thompson, Alex Phetteplace, Drew Phetteplace, Karissa Mendez, Jessica Hubbard, Carter Hubbard, Kerstin Leigh, and Keagan Franklin; her great-grandchildren, Jordan Hammond, Bindi Thompson, Kaden Downey, Kellen Downey, Kolden Downey, Emorie Mendez, Maelie Mendez, Kennedy Leigh, Kameron Leigh, Weston Franklin, and Briggs Franklin. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles in 2006 as well as her granddaughter, Stacey Meyer.

A graveside service will take place at 1:00pm on Friday, May 17, at Mt. Hope Cemetery, 5697 St. Hwy. 12 Norwich. In lieu of flowers, Donations in Sylvia’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org or to Hospice of Chenango County, 33-39 Court St. Norwich, NY 13815.
