Sharon was born in New Berlin, NY on December 4, 1942 to Lawrence and Mary (Bowers) Dougherty.
Soon after graduating from Sherburne Central School she married the love of her life, Graydon L. Steward, on March 28, 1963.
Graydon predeceased her on December 29, 1999.
As a loving mother she is survived by her four children: Jamie and Jackie Dougherty of Syracuse NY, LeVon and Michael Garofalo of Norwich NY, Lisa and Karl Hadlock of Sherburne NY, and LeAnn Cosens of Carthage NY.
Sharon is also survived by 8 grandchildren: Jason Dougherty, Kristin Krofft, Megan Abbey, Deborah Rafiq, Samantha Lotemo, Amanda Mikalunas, Matthew Cosens, Emma Donnelly and 15 great-grandchildren.
Sharon’s love for her grandchildren is what brought joy to her most. With her love and kindness Sharon always had at least one grandchild to care for at all times. She is forever grateful for her great granddaughter Addy, who cared for her at the end of her life.
Sharon was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Norwich NY, where she also worked as a custodian. She also worked on the board of elections in North Norwich for many years. Sharon had a love for working on family genealogy. She spent countless hours helping others work on finding their ancestors.
Sharon will be forever loved and never forgotten.
A graveside service will be held on Friday July 26, 2024 at 11am at the North Norwich Cemetery with President Richard C. Wright of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints officiating.
