Norman E. Smith Sr.

Norm was born on October 25, 1933 in Norwich the son of Vinson C. and Alice D. (Barns) Smith. He lived most of his life in Norwich and the surrounding towns and attended school in Norwich and Oxford graduating in 1953. He was active in sports playing football in Oxford and enjoyed his hunting and fishing.

On July 7, 1953 he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps serving his country until his honorable discharge on July 6, 1956. On January 13, 1957 he Joan (Manley) Smith who passed into Eternal Life on November 17, 2021. Over the years he worked in several area factories as well as in western New York. Norm was also a faithful member of the Holmesville Baptist Church.

Norman is survived by his children Tammy J. (Mark) Reynolds of FL, Norman J. Smith of Mt. Upton, Colleen J. (Raymond) Melella of Mt. Upton, Aaron J. Smith of Sidney and Darcy J. Smith of Bainbridge. Also surviving are his grandchildren Brandi Backus, Gavin (Kiersten) Backus, LeEva Smith, Amanda Smith, Austin Smith, Elizabeth Smith and Brianna Bradtke along with 7 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his wife Joan, Norman was predeceased by his siblings Jean Smith, Earle Smith, Vinson Smith, Brian Smith and Nelson Smith.

A funeral service for Norm will be held on Friday, December 15, at 1:00 pm from the R.J. Fahy Funeral Home. Pastor Grant Smith of the Holmesville Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Friends may call at the R.J.Fahy Funeral Home on Friday from 11-1pm.
