Preston- Thomas “Tom” Turner, 65, passed away peacefully on
Tuesday, January 11, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. He was born on March 29, 1956 in Bath, Maine to Robert Turner and Mary(Lermond) Turner. He graduated from Gray-New Gloucester High School in 1974. After graduating he joined the Army where he served in the 2nd Armored
Division. After being discharged from the Army, he moved back to Gray, Maine where he worked making snow grooming equipment at Valley Engineering.
He moved to CT in 1984 and had a job working at a paper mill, followed by working for Coffey’s Disposal Service doing the recycling. He was also the handyman for many apartment buildings. After he moved on from this, he started doing cable installation at Adelphia and then at Comcast. He retired from Comcast in 2016.
Throughout his life he was involved with the Boy Scouts, served as president of Norwich Little League, and was an active EMT with the Occum Fire Department and then later the Poquetanuck Fire
Department. Most recently Tom was a member of both the Board of Education and Parks and Recreation in Preston. Tom was a diehard Boston Bruins fan and an avid gun collector. He will forever be
remembered for his kindness, his laughter, his love for John Wayne movies and Louis L’Amour books, and most of all, the love and devotion he had for his family. He touched the lives of so many over the
years.
Tom was predeceased by his parents Robert and Mary Turner, and his sister Barbara Ann Patton. He is survived by his wife Tracey Turner and his 6 children: Katherine (Ray) Bushey, Megan (Mike) Fortin,
Emma (Greg Jr.) Moran, Christopher, Elizabeth, and Grace Turner. He is also survived by his brother Bill (Cardie) Turner, of Oak Ridge, TN.
Tom also left behind 9 grandchildren: Juliana Taylor, Jesse and Chase Fortin, Gregory III and Everlee-Joan Moran, and Braelyn, Bellamy, Lilah, and Jaeden Mondesire, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022 at 10:00 am with a brief visitation hour starting a 9:00 am at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St, Norwich, CT, 06360. A graveside
service will follow at the Preston City Cemetery followed by a Celebration of Life at the Poquetanuck Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tom Turner Memorial Fund, a
trust set up to benefit his three youngest children at Jewett City Savings
Bank. Checks may be mailed to and made out to Tom Turner Memorial
Fund, 389 Route 2, Preston, CT 06365
