August 24, 1937- September 15, 2014
Norwich- Bobby Longo, 77, devoted husband, adoring father and grandfather, passed away on September 15, 2014, surrounded by his wife and daughters at Orchard Grove Specialty Care Center after a long battle with Alzheimer’s.
Bob is the son of Gregory Longo Senior and Mary Piazza. The family grew up on West Thames St. and Bob graduated from Norwich Free Academy in 1955. After graduating, Bobby enlisted in the U.S. Army and was trained as a medic.
On June 25, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy Aldrich of Norwich. Bob and Nancy were married for 54 years. Together their lives were dedicated to family. They raised three daughters, Carolyn Longo Stangle, Diane Longo Allard and Judy Longo Bilda, all living on Canterbury Turnpike in Norwich.
Bob’s priority in life was being a loving husband and father but he was greatly admired for his incredible work ethic. He was a retired Teamster, working many years as a route salesman: from milkman to bread man, to finally being known as “the Twinkie man”. Customers always looked forward to his warm smile and cheerful personality.
Bob enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He and Nancy have many fond memories of hiking, camping, walking on the beach and traveling in their motor home. He was known as a “jack of all trades”, who was always willing to take on a job or project especially if it involved his daughters.
His loving wife, Nancy, three daughters, their spouses and seven grandchildren survive Bob. He is also survived by four sisters, Josephine Bleir, Sue Santoro, Mary Babbitt, and Helen Washburn along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
His parents and five brothers, Nick, Tony, Gregory, Sam and Peter, predeceased Bob. He is loved by many and will be greatly missed. We would like to acknowledge the amazing staff at Orchard Grove Specialty Care Center. The love and warmth that came from so any different departments was a great comfort to our family for so many years. We would like to thank the maintenance staff, dietary staff, administration and of course all the CNA's and nurses. The love you had for our dad was very apparent. Thank you.
Calling hours will be Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 9:00am at Labenski’s Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave, in Norwich, followed by a Mass of Christian burial 10:00am, at St. Patrick Cathedral. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Ross Adult Day Center, 165 McKinley Ave, Norwich or a gift in honor of Bob at the Alzheimer’s Association at www.act.alz.org. Please visit www.labenskifuneralhome.com to leave an online tribute or condolence.
