He was the son of Irving H. and Eleanor Norman. He lived in Gales Ferry CT, attended local schools and graduated from NFA in 1964 with a major in art. He attended Pratt Art College in Boston where he became proficient at ceramic pottery, painted landscapes, and illustration. Later he was drafted into the Army and became a sergeant in combat in Vietnam. He was awarded 4 bronze medals for service and valor. After returning, he joined his father’s land development business and became an accomplished stone mason. He specialized in decorative fireplaces and chimneys. A few of his works became covers on local custom building magazines. While married he helped run his wife’s print shop. He also enjoyed carpentry, art and stonework.
Dick is survived by his two daughters; Katelyn Iva Norman, and Laura Anne Norman, their mother Maureen Marsh, his mother, Eleanor Norman, his brother Barry Holt and his wife Andrea, three nephews and their children. He is predeceased by his father and a sister, Patricia Norman. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday at 11am at Church & Allen Funeral Home, 136 Sachem St., Norwich, CT with a calling hour beginning at 10am. Military Honors will be rendered at the funeral home and burial will be private at a later date. A reception will immediately follow funeral services at the Norwich American Legion, Laurel Hill Ave/RT 12, Norwich.
