April 27 1947- November in 20 2022
Peter Nicholas DeLucia , 75, of Norwich CT passed away unexpectedly on November 20 2022. He was born in Norwich on April 27 1947, the son of the late Irene (Welch) DeLucia and the late Peter DeLucia. He was the first born of 5 children. Growing up he always looked out for his younger siblings and helped his mother how ever he could.
Peter honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1969-1972. He always spoke in high regard of his time overseas. He was proud he had joined the Army even though he was exempt from the draft. He was trained as a carpenter during his service, a skill he continued to use throughout his life as a handyman. He earned the National Defense Service Medal as well as the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal and we classified as an expert with the M-14, M-16, and the grenade.
Peter had a great sense of humor and was always quick with a joke. He was a social butterfly and would know someone where ever he went. Peter was the guy you could call at 2 a.m. and without a second thought, would jump out of bed and drive across the country if you needed him to. He enjoyed nature and could easily identify many types of trees, flowers, and birds, with just a quick glance. He really enjoyed summer when he could tend to his garden and grapevines.
Peter had a profound love for music. He taught himself to play guitar at a young age. He created a music show on public access TV, called Peter D Family and Friends, and it starred Peter and his brother Tom. Together they’d play guitar and sing some of his favorite songs.
Peter was most proud of his children and grandchildren. He was always the fun dad/granddad and would bring his kids and their friends wherever they wanted. Carnivals, fairs, bowling, rollerskating, the beach, Riverside and Rocky Point. Even a late night trip to McDonald’s could be on the agenda. He would have spent his last dollar if it meant his kids were happy. Every time he saw his five grandkids they’d yell “grandpa” and run to see him. He danced in their videos, play the guitar, and would just be silly with them. He will be missed dearly by all who loved him.
Peter is survived by his wife April DeLucia. He is also survived by his children, daughter, Jessica Lombardi and son in law Richard of North Stonington , his son, Jeff DeLucia of Norwich, five grandchildren Alyssa , Ava, Alaina, Richard, and Ariana, all of North Stonington. He is also survived by his sister, Irene DeLucia of Norwich, sister, Kathy Sulla of Ohio, brother, Nick DeLucia of Florida, brother, Tom DeLucia and sister in law Lesly of Norwich, and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
